About the Role

Anaplan has an exciting opportunity for an Engineering Manager to lead the Environment Tooling team within Platform Engineering, and at the forefront of our ongoing DevOps and Platform transformation.

The Environment Tooling team is a cornerstone of our Platform Engineering organisation. They own and maintain our core GitOps deployment pipeline and drive developer experience tooling. Looking forward, the Environment Tooling team will expand its scope to lead our Next-Generation Environment Strategy - taking named ownership of our non-production environments and building automated orchestration and self-healing systems for the path to production.

As the manager of the Environment Tooling team, your passion will be coaching and building a talented team of platform engineers while balancing mission-critical operational stability with bold, strategic initiatives. You will lead a team of six engineers and report to the Senior Director, Platform Engineering.

You will join a collaborative engineering community that embraces diverse perspectives, isn't afraid to push boundaries, and is passionate about helping our customers and each other succeed.

Your Impact:

Leadership & People Management

  • Coaching & Talent Development: Lead, mentor, and grow a team of high-performing platform engineers, ensuring individual career development, clear goals, and continuous skill building.
  • Team Wellbeing & Culture: Foster a safe, inclusive, and motivated team culture. Prioritise healthy work-life balance and operational readiness.
  • Agile & Process Execution: Embrace a pragmatic Agile mindset to continuously refine team processes, manage sprint commitments, remove blockers, and deliver value iteratively.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with peer platform managers, security, and software development leaders to align on roadmaps, boundaries, and shared goals.
  • Project & Initiative Delivery: Own end-to-end delivery of Environment Tooling initiatives, from scoping and planning through sequencing dependencies, tracking milestones, managing risk, and reporting progress to stakeholders.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Platform Ownership & Operations

  • Argo CD & GitOps Core: Lead the active engineering ownership, architectural hardening, scalability, and operational support for Argo CD across the entire platform.
  • Feature Flagging Infrastructure: Govern platform-wide feature flagging tools and set the technology strategy.
  • Operational Readiness & On-Call: Direct the team's dedicated on-call rotation to ensure deployment pipeline stability and smooth release execution during critical downtime windows.
  • Strategic Vision: Next-Generation Environments & Non-Prod Ownership
    • Named Non-Prod Ownership: Establish the Environment Tooling team as the owner, guardian, and governance authority for all non-production environments across the path to production.
    • Local Development: Provide and support modern developer environments, such as local Tilt workflows on developer laptops backed by cloud-hosted services.
    • Environment Orchestration & Tooling Development: Design and build overarching orchestration systems and new platform tooling to tear down and rebuild non-prod environments on demand. This includes:
      • Building New Core Capabilities: Architect and develop new internal tooling to automatically generate mock test data, manage environment test states, and provision test user identities.
      • Integrating Platform Pipelines: Connect orchestration workflows with infrastructure automation systems (for cluster provisioning and teardown) and service hydration pipelines.
      • Automated Self-Healing & Guardrails: Implement automated tooling to instantly detect when a deployment breaks a non-prod environment and execute an immediate rollback.
      • Environment Governance: Define and enforce standards and usage policies for non-production environments across all engineering teams.

Your Skills:

  • Engineering Leadership: Demonstrated experience leading platform, infrastructure, or DevOps engineering teams as a manager or senior tech lead with a track record of mentoring engineers and driving key technical decisions. (First-time managers with strong aptitude and relevant lead experience are encouraged to apply)
  • Platform & GitOps Expertise: Deep technical understanding of modern cloud-native architectures, GitOps workflows (Argo CD), Infrastructure as Code, and container orchestration.
  • Pragmatic & Iterative Mindset: Strong commitment to delivering value early and often, prioritising continuous improvement over single-burst perfectionism.
  • Developer Experience Focus: Passion for simplifying the developer inner loop and building frictionless, self-service platform tooling.
  • Clear Communicator: Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, capable of setting clear expectations, maintaining roadmap transparency, and establishing technical governance.
