The Role
We're looking for a hands-on Engineering Manager to lead one or more software engineering teams delivering business-critical platforms and services.
This is a player-coach role. You'll be responsible for building and developing a high-performing team while remaining actively involved in technical design, architecture and engineering delivery.
We're not looking for someone who has stepped away from technology. We want an engineering leader who still enjoys solving technical problems, reviewing designs, improving developer experience and helping teams deliver quality software at scale.
What You'll Do
- Lead, mentor and grow a team of software engineers.
- Drive delivery across multiple workstreams and projects.
- Contribute to architecture and technical decision-making.
- Remain close to the codebase and support engineers with complex technical challenges.
- Improve engineering processes, tooling and automation.
- Work closely with Product, Delivery and Architecture teams.
- Support recruitment, onboarding and career development.
- Foster a collaborative, high-performance engineering culture.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
