Overview
The Engineering Manager leads the site engineering function, ensuring that plant, equipment and facilities are safe, reliable and capable of supporting the manufacture of high-quality technical ceramic products.
The role is responsible for leading engineering activities that improve equipment performance, reduce downtime and support safe, efficient and cost-effective production across a demanding ceramics manufacturing environment.

The Technical Ceramics business of Morgan Advanced Materials engineers high performance functional and structural ceramic materials, components and sub-assemblies to address customer-specific technical challenges.

Responsibilities
- Lead, manage and develop the site engineering team, setting clear objectives, allocating resources, monitoring performance and supporting training, succession planning and continuous professional development.
- Ensure plant, equipment, utilities and site infrastructure are maintained in a safe, reliable and compliant condition through effective planned, preventive and reactive maintenance programmes.
- Develop and deliver site engineering plans, maintenance priorities and key performance indicators to improve reliability, reduce downtime, control costs and support production, quality and customer requirements.
- Promote a positive, accountable and collaborative culture, ensuring effective communication, regular one-to-one meetings, constructive feedback and consistent application of company people policies.
- Lead engineering improvement and capital projects from concept through to commissioning, ensuring appropriate technical review, risk management, budget control, documentation and stakeholder engagement.
- Drive continuous improvement across kilns, furnaces, presses, machining and finishing equipment, utilities and facilities, using root cause analysis and engineering data to prevent recurrence of faults and improve process capability.
- Manage engineering budgets, critical spares, suppliers and contractors to achieve value for money while maintaining required standards of safety, quality and service.
- Work closely with production, quality, environmental and other site functions to resolve operational issues, support new product and process introductions, and meet business objectives.
- Provide leadership on health, safety and wellbeing across the engineering function, ensuring risks are effectively managed and legal and company standards are maintained.

Qualifications
- Relevant engineering qualification or equivalent practical experience.
- Chartered Engineer status, or progress towards relevant accreditation, is desirable.
- Significant engineering leadership experience in manufacturing; ceramics, high-temperature or process-industry experience is desirable.
- Strong knowledge of maintenance management, asset reliability, root cause analysis and continuous improvement.
- Proven people-management skills, including objective setting, performance management, coaching and technical development.
- Knowledge of UK engineering health and safety, including risk assessments, safe systems, machinery safety, contractor control and permits to work.
- Ability to travel to other locations to attend meetings, training or support other Morgan sites.
