About the Role
Overview
We're looking for an Engineering Manager to lead software engineering teams while remaining actively involved in technical delivery. This is a player-coach role, suited to someone who enjoys developing people, improving engineering practices and contributing to architecture and technical decision-making. You'll be responsible for building high-performing teams, delivering business-critical software and helping create an environment where engineers can do their best work.
Responsibilities
- Lead, coach and develop software engineers across one or more teams.
- Remain technically involved, contributing to architecture, design reviews and complex technical discussions.
- Support delivery of business-critical systems, APIs and services.
- Work closely with Product, Delivery and Architecture teams to define technical solutions.
- Drive improvements in engineering standards, testing, deployment and operational practices.
- Identify opportunities for automation and tooling that improve developer productivity.
- Support recruitment, interviewing and onboarding of new engineers.
- Mentor engineers at all levels and create clear development pathways.
- Balance delivery commitments with the long-term health and maintainability of the platform.

Required Skills
- Experience leading software engineering teams in an Agile environment.
- A genuine player-coach leadership style, with the ability to switch between people leadership and technical contribution.
- Strong experience designing and delivering scalable distributed systems.
- Proven track record of coaching engineers and helping them progress in their careers.
- Experience working with senior stakeholders across business and technology functions.
- Strong focus on continuous improvement, team culture and engineering quality.
