Role Overview
Some engineering teams reach a point where technical leadership and people leadership need to be owned separately. That’s the opportunity here.
We’re partnering an experienced a product-led software business to recruit an Engineering Manager, responsible for around 12 engineers working across multiple teams.
Responsibilities
The Tech Leads own the technical direction. This role gives dedicated ownership to how engineers are managed, developed, challenged and supported as the team continues to grow.
Location & Working Arrangement
This is a fully remote role open to candidates based in the UK or Ireland. There is also office space available in Belfast for anyone who prefers occasional in-person working.
What You’ll Own
- Regular 1:1s, coaching and clear feedback
- Performance management, including difficult conversations when needed
- Career development, progression and promotions
- Engineering career frameworks and review processes
- Hiring and onboarding
- Team health, retention and remote culture
- Helping shape how engineering management works as the organisation grows
Reasons to use Rodeo
I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
You’ll work closely with the Head of Engineering and Tech Leads, but your focus will be firmly on the people side of engineering.
What They’re Looking For
This isn’t a first move into management. You’ll need:
- Previous experience directly managing software engineers
- Experience supporting engineers across more than one team or product area
- A strong track record of developing engineers from mid-level through senior
- Hands-on experience managing underperformance
- Experience with progression, promotions and career frameworks
- Experience hiring software engineers
- Enough technical depth to read code, follow pull requests and understand the engineering context
- The judgement to know when to get involved and when to leave technical decisions with the Tech Leads
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in a remote environment
- Practical experience using AI tools in your own work
- Ruby or Rails experience would be useful, but it isn’t essential.
- The priority is someone who is genuinely strong at managing engineers while remaining technically credible.
