Engineering Supervisor (Avionics) (Merlin)
Location: AESAS – RNAS Culdrose, TR12 7RH Salary: Competitive salary plus excellent benefits Schedule: 38 hours per week
About the Role
Ready to impact a better future? As a Supervisor in our AESAS team, you’ll help ensure safe, effective, and compliant maintenance of the Merlin HM Mk 2 aircraft—supporting essential operations that directly contribute to the Royal Navy’s capability while fostering a positive impact on communities.
You’ll play a key role in:
- maintaining operational airworthiness
- guiding colleagues and apprentices
- supporting a highly regulated engineering environment
Your work will help shape impactful solutions, build trust with partners, and create a safe and efficient future for aircraft engineering at RNAS Culdrose.
Responsibilities
You’ll be entrusted to:
Carry out maintenance on Merlin aircraft and components in line with published procedures.
Supervise and delegate tasks efficiently to:
- Fitters
- Fitters’ Mates
- Apprentices (Allocated daily workloads per the OST Team Lead.)
Procedures and compliance include:
- Second-signature authorisation for your trade group
- Conducting independent inspections (where authorised iaw MAM(P))
- Supporting the OST Team Lead with operational performance, ensuring efficient and compliant delivery
- Ensuring team members’ training, currency and qualification needs are communicated to the OST Team Lead

Requirements
This role is ideal if you have:
Essential Qualifications:
- Service Certificate of Competency OR
- Completion of the Serco Supervisory Management and Aircraft Documentation Course (and CofC Board)
Technical & Operational Expertise:
- Supervisory experience
- Deep working knowledge of:
- Merlin aircraft systems
- Servicing and support equipment
- Proficiency in:
- Airworthiness Engineering
- Military Aviation Authority (MAA) compliance
- Rotary wing aviation procedures
- Experience with:
- Naval Air Publications
- C–IETP
- Project planning
- Lean processes
Leadership & Behavioural Competencies:
- Strong leadership skills
- Ability to work effectively under pressure to meet operational outputs
Pre-Assignment Security & Health Checks
This position requires:
- Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance (identity, employment history, nationality, criminal record checks)
- Security clearance upgrade *(e.g., CTC or SC), including deeper background checks
- Note: UK residency may apply for certain clearance levels
- Completion of an Occupational Health Questionnaire (to provide appropriate support)
