Position Summary

The Refrigeration Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the commercial refrigeration service team, ensuring that maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair services are executed effectively, efficiently, and safely. This individual will lead a team of refrigeration engineers, manage workflow, coordinate with clients, and maintain service quality standards.

In addition to strong technical expertise, the role requires commercial awareness to align service delivery with client expectations, manage costs, identify opportunities for service improvements, and support the company’s growth and profitability objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Supervision & Support

  • Provide hands-on technical guidance to field technicians servicing commercial refrigeration systems
  • Review work orders and technical data to support accurate diagnostics and effective repair strategies.
  • Ensure all service activities comply with safety standards, manufacturer specifications, and environmental regulations.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Supervise and mentor a team of service technicians, promoting continuous learning and professional development.
  • Allocate resources and assign workloads to meet service demands and customer expectations.
  • Facilitate performance evaluations, skills assessments, and targeted training initiatives.

Customer Service & Commercial Focus

  • Serve as the primary liaison between the company and commercial clients, ensuring services meet agreed timelines, budgets, and performance standards.
  • Demonstrate commercial awareness by identifying customer needs, upsell opportunities, and areas for added value (e.g., preventative maintenance programs or energy efficiency improvements).
  • Manage client relationships proactively, ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction and repeat business.

Operational & Business Responsibilities

  • Monitor key service metrics (e.g., response times, first-time fix rates, customer feedback) and use insights to improve operational efficiency.
  • Ensure accurate documentation and timely reporting on job completion, parts usage, and service outcomes.
  • Support budget management, cost control, and profitability through efficient planning, minimizing waste, and reducing rework.
  • Assist with pricing estimates, contract management, and service proposals in coordination with management teams.

Required Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 3 in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning
  • City & Guilds Refrigeration and Air Conditioning qualifications
  • F-Gas Category 1 Certification
  • CO2 Certification

Experience:

  • Minimum 5+ years’ experience in commercial refrigeration service.
  • At least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership capacity within a service or technical team.

Technical Skills & Knowledge

  • Expert knowledge of commercial refrigeration systems, controls, compressors, and refrigerants.
  • Proficiency with tools, diagnostics, and service management software.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, and technical manuals.

Soft Skills & Commercial Awareness:

  • Strong leadership, coaching, and conflict-resolution abilities.
  • Excellent customer service and relationship management skills.
  • High level of commercial awareness understanding how technical decisions impact cost, service margins, and client satisfaction.
  • Ability to balance technical excellence with business priorities such as uptime, cost efficiency, and customer retention.
  • Proactive mindset with an ability to identify process improvements, cost-saving measures, and revenue opportunities.

Working Conditions

  • Combination of office-based and on-site responsibilities.
  • Regular exposure to cold environments, rooftop units, confined spaces, and mechanical hazards.
  • Duty manager rota 1 in 4
