Job Description
The Kansas City, Kansas Environmental Services Division in Public Works is seeking a knowledgeable and detail-oriented Engineering Support Supervisor to oversee the inspection of sanitary sewer and stormwater infrastructure projects. This position plays a critical role in protecting public infrastructure by ensuring construction and maintenance activities meet engineering standards, regulatory requirements, and project specifications.
The Engineering Support Supervisor will oversee and conduct inspections of sanitary sewer and storm drainage construction, rehabilitation, and maintenance projects to ensure compliance with approved plans and specifications, applicable codes, environmental regulations, and safety standards.
Primary Responsibilities
- Inspect sanitary sewer and storm drainage construction, rehabilitation, and maintenance projects for compliance with engineering plans, specifications, and regulatory requirements.
- Inspect new sewer service taps and sewer abandonment work connected to City mains.
- Monitor the installation of sewer mains, manholes, catch basins, culverts, storm drains, lift stations, and related infrastructure.
- Verify proper pipe alignment, grade, bedding, backfill, compaction, and material quality throughout construction.
- Document required testing, including pressure, leakage, compaction, and other quality assurance tests.
- Maintain accurate inspection reports, documentation, photographs, and project records.
- Identify construction deficiencies and coordinate corrective actions with contractors, engineers, project managers, and internal staff.
- Ensure projects comply with applicable safety standards, environmental regulations, City standards, and engineering specifications.
- Respond to field questions and provide technical guidance regarding construction requirements.
- Coordinate inspections with contractors and utility representatives to support project schedules.
- Assist with project closeout documentation and acceptance of completed infrastructure.
- Supervise and support engineering personnel while promoting safe work practices, accountability, and high-quality customer service.
- Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

- Associate's degree in Civil Engineering Technologies, or related field and three years of engineering technician related experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
- Experience in construction inspection, public works, utilities, or civil infrastructure preferred.
- Knowledge of sanitary sewer and storm drainage construction practices.
- Familiarity with municipal standards and construction codes.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and inspection documentation software.
- Valid driver's license.
Salary Range
$22.14 - $28.96/hr.
