The Engineering Surveyor will be responsible for providing a comprehensive range of surveying services across major construction and development projects.
Working closely with senior surveying and project management teams, the successful candidate will provide accurate survey control, structural monitoring, laser scanning and as-built information throughout all stages of construction.
Main Responsibilities
- Maintain survey control networks across multiple construction and development projects.
- Provide and maintain horizontal and vertical control across all floors of a project for use by contractors and internal project teams throughout the construction lifecycle.
- Support and develop the team's laser scanning capabilities, including field data collection, processing and knowledge sharing.
- Monitor basement and ground-floor slabs for deflection and settlement.
- Monitor structures for differential vertical shortening between building cores and external structures/envelopes.
- Monitor existing and adjacent structures for deflection, deformation and movement associated with construction activities.
- Carry out as-built surveys throughout shell & core construction and, where required, during fit-out phases.
- Undertake topographical surveys to support development teams, designers, engineers and architects.
- Provide AutoCAD and drawing support to assist with project coordination and interfaces.
- Register, coordinate and manage incoming survey requests.
- Check survey computations and compile survey information prior to approval and issue.
- Oversee the calibration of surveying equipment and maintain appropriate calibration records.
- Ensure surveying equipment and supplies are maintained, checked and ordered when required.
- Work closely with project teams, trade contractors, consultants and other internal and external stakeholders.
- Provide technical guidance, training and support to Assistant Engineering Surveyors.
- Carry out other reasonable surveying and project-related duties as required by senior management.

Working Relationships
The Engineering Surveyor will work closely with senior members of the surveying team and wider project management function.
You will collaborate with Assistant Engineering Surveyors to ensure surveys are completed accurately, to the required standards and within agreed timescales.
The position requires strong working relationships with project personnel, trade contractors, consultants, designers and other stakeholders involved in major construction projects.

The successful candidate will be expected to understand and discharge their responsibilities in relation to health, safety and welfare, ensuring surveying activities are carried out safely and in accordance with relevant legislation, policies and project procedures.
Candidates should have a good understanding of the Building Safety Act and associated regulations and be confident working within highly controlled construction environments.

The successful candidate will be expected to support the organisation's wider ESG objectives, including environmental compliance, waste reduction, sustainability and positive engagement with the surrounding community.
Quality Management
All surveying activities must be undertaken in accordance with relevant quality management systems and procedures.
The successful candidate will support compliance with ISO 9001 requirements and ensure appropriate procedures, plans, documentation and electronic document management systems are followed.

Person Specification
The Successful Candidate Should
- Have proven Engineering Surveying experience gained on major construction projects.
- Hold a relevant formal qualification in Surveying, Engineering, Geomatics or a related discipline, ideally HND level or above.
- Be a member of, or actively working towards membership of, a relevant professional surveying institution such as CICES, RICS or equivalent.
- Have strong practical experience of engineering and construction surveying.
- Have experience establishing and maintaining horizontal and vertical survey control.
- Have experience with laser scanning, field data collection and processing.
- Understand structural movement monitoring, including settlement, deflection and deformation.
- Be confident carrying out as-built and topographical surveys.
- Have AutoCAD or similar technical drawing experience.
- Possess a practical, proactive and problem-solving approach and be comfortable working under demanding project timescales.
- Have strong communication skills and be capable of working effectively with project teams, contractors and consultants.
- Be capable of developing and implementing surveying-related systems and procedures.
- Be comfortable providing technical guidance and training to junior members of the surveying team.
- Have good computer literacy and administration skills.
- Be competent in reviewing and commenting on Method Statements and Risk Assessments.
