Engineering Surveyor – Client-Side Developer
Location: London
Salary: Up to £60,000
An excellent opportunity has arisen for an Engineering Surveyor to join the in-house surveying team of a major London property developer.
This is a particularly attractive opportunity for someone currently working within a surveying consultancy, engineering consultancy, contractor or specialist survey business who is looking to move client-side and work directly for the developer.
Rather than moving between external client projects, you will become part of the developer’s own technical team, supporting major construction and development projects across a high-profile London estate.
A key focus of the role is 3D laser scanning, and the successful candidate will have the opportunity to take real ownership of this capability within the team, helping to develop best practice, improve workflows and support wider knowledge sharing.
The Role
Working closely with senior engineering and project management colleagues, you will provide surveying services across major construction projects from early-stage works through to shell and core, fit-out and completion.
Responsibilities will include:
- Carrying out and maintaining horizontal and vertical survey control across construction projects
- Undertaking engineering surveys, as-built surveys and topographical surveys
- Providing accurate survey information to project teams, designers, architects and contractors
- Carrying out 3D laser scanning in the field and processing point-cloud data
- Supporting and developing the team’s laser scanning capability
- Monitoring structures for settlement, movement, deflection and deformation
- Producing survey drawings and CAD outputs
- Checking survey computations and ensuring the accuracy of survey deliverables
- Managing incoming survey requests and coordinating surveying activities
- Supporting calibration and maintenance of surveying equipment
- Working closely with project teams, contractors and other stakeholders
- Providing technical guidance and support to junior members of the surveying team

What We’re Looking For
The key requirement for this role is strong practical experience of 3D laser scanning.
You should ideally have experience of both:
- Field data collection using terrestrial laser scanning equipment
- Processing, registering and working with point-cloud data
Experience with specific software is flexible, and candidates may have worked with platforms such as Leica Cyclone, Register 360, Trimble RealWorks, FARO Scene, Autodesk ReCap or similar.
You will also ideally have:
- Experience working as an Engineering Surveyor, Construction Surveyor, Site Surveyor, Survey Engineer or similar
- A strong understanding of survey control, levels, setting out and as-built surveying
- Experience working on major construction, commercial or complex building projects
- Confidence working independently and taking responsibility for survey activities
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with contractors and project teams
- A relevant qualification in surveying, engineering, geomatics or a related discipline
- Membership of, or progress towards, a professional body such as CICES or RICS would be advantageous

The client is open-minded on exact years of experience. Someone with approximately 2-3 years of strong hands-on laser scanning experience could be just as relevant as a more experienced surveyor whose scanning exposure is more limited.
