Engineering Team Leader – B&P & Packing
Location: Northampton
Job Length: Full Time
Working Hours: 42
Shift: 2 Days, 2 Nights, 4 off.

Carlsberg Britvic is the largest multi-beverage supplier in the UK and is home to some of the most iconic and popular beers & soft drinks, including Carlsberg Danish Pilsner, 1664, Poretti and Brooklyn to ale favourites such as Hobgoblin and Wainwright. For soft drinks, Carlsberg Britvic’s brands include J2O, Robinsons, Tango and London Essence along with the licence rights to the Pepsi portfolio in the UK including Pepsi MAX, 7UP, Lipton Iced Tea and Rockstar Energy.
With a strong national footprint, the Carlsberg Britvic business includes 5 production facilities and 16 logistics depot’s servicing customers up and down the UK. As these two historical businesses have come together, the one common goal remains, and that is ensuring our people succeed.
This is an exciting time to join the Northampton Brewery where you will be a part of a highly skilled maintenance team, delivering and driving results in a modern operation. You will be working in a well backed and invested environment that is working with cutting edge technologies on a large scale.
Role Responsibilities:
- Lead, coach and develop a multi-skilled engineering team, creating a culture of safety, accountability and continuous improvement.
- Ensure full compliance with Health, Safety, Environment (HSE), LOTO and food safety standards, championing safe engineering practices across the shift.
- Manage team performance through appraisals, return-to-work interviews, training plans and effective performance management.
- Support the development of engineering capability through coaching, skills development, certification management and apprentice mentoring.
- Plan, prioritise and coordinate reactive and preventative maintenance activities to maximise equipment reliability and minimise downtime.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives using TPM, RCA, Kaizen, Lean and Six Sigma methodologies to improve operational performance.
- Monitor and improve engineering KPIs, including preventative maintenance delivery, MTBF, MTTR and asset reliability measures.
- Ensure accurate use of SAP CMMS, maintaining high standards of maintenance reporting, data quality and asset management.
- Manage engineering resources, contractors, permits, RAMS, isolations and shutdown activities to ensure safe and effective delivery of maintenance work.
- Support cost control and efficiency initiatives through waste reduction, spare parts optimisation and ongoing review of maintenance practices and performance.

Experience and Key Attributes:
- Proven experience leading engineering maintenance teams within an FMCG, brewing, packaging or manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of engineering maintenance planning, asset reliability and preventative maintenance best practice.
- Knowledge of engineering, quality, health & safety, environmental and regulatory standards within a production environment.
- Ability to drive continuous improvement through Lean, TPM and structured problem-solving methodologies.
- Qualified to HNC level (or equivalent) in an engineering discipline, or able to demonstrate significant relevant leadership experience.
- Strong analytical and decision-making skills, with the ability to balance quality, safety, cost and performance priorities.
- Excellent people leadership skills with experience coaching, mentoring, developing and empowering teams.
- Proven ability to collaborate across functions, build strong stakeholder relationships and communicate effectively at all levels.
- Experience using SAP CMMS, BI systems and other engineering or maintenance management tools.
- Results-driven with a customer-focused mindset, high levels of personal accountability and a passion for delivering operational excellence.
