HIRING: ENGINEERING TECH LEAD
Location: Sheffield, UK
Work Mode: Hybrid – 3 Days WFO per Week
Contract Duration: 9 Months
We are looking for an experienced ENGINEERING TECH LEAD with strong expertise in Java, Spring Boot, React, DevOps, LLM, Prompt Engineering and Agentic AI.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience building production-quality software services and implementing production-grade AI and LLM solutions.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Software Engineering and Delivery
- Design, build and deliver production-quality services using Java and Spring Boot.
- Develop REST APIs, event-driven services and secure, high-performance applications.
- Build and optimise CI/CD pipelines with strong testing, observability and automation.
- Work with React for front-end development and API integration.
- Collaborate with product and domain teams to convert business requirements into technical and prompt specifications.
Prompt Engineering and LLM
- Design, optimise and maintain prompts for production LLM applications.
- Develop prompts for instruction following, structured output generation, classification, summarisation, code generation and reasoning.
- Build and manage prompt libraries and prompt versioning strategies.
- Implement prompt evaluation frameworks and custom evaluation pipelines.
- Work with LangSmith, PromptFlow, Braintrust or equivalent prompt evaluation tools.
- Strong understanding of tokenisation, context limits, temperature tuning and model-specific behaviour.
- Experience with tool calling, function calling, structured JSON output and multi-turn conversations.

Agentic AI and LLM Integration
- Architect, develop and maintain Agentic AI systems.
- Build autonomous agents, multi-agent workflows and tool-use workflows.
- Implement planning loops and memory-augmented reasoning.
- Implement LLM observability including logging, tracing and evaluation pipelines.
- Develop guardrails, output validation and quality controls for production AI systems.
- Support responsible AI deployment and human-in-the-loop workflows.
- Troubleshoot and optimise LLM and Agentic AI applications in production environments.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
- Strong Java and Spring Boot development experience.
- Strong full-stack engineering experience with React and API integration.
- Hands-on experience with production LLM applications and Prompt Engineering.
- Practical experience designing and implementing Agentic AI systems.
- Experience with LLM evaluation, observability and guardrails.
- Strong Kubernetes and cloud-native engineering experience.
- Experience building CI/CD pipelines.
- Strong Terraform and Infrastructure as Code experience.
- Experience with AWS, Azure or GCP.
- Experience with Kafka or equivalent messaging/streaming platforms.
- Experience with PostgreSQL and Redis or equivalent databases.
