Role Title: Engineering Lead
Experience: 12 to 18+ Years
Location: London (2 Days onsite/week)
The ideal candidate will be responsible for leading multi-disciplinary engineering teams, providing technical direction, driving engineering excellence, ensuring delivery quality, and managing stakeholder relationships across business, architecture, operations, and delivery functions.
The role requires strong hands-on knowledge of modern engineering practices, cloud-native platforms, microservices architecture, DevOps, security, and large-scale transformation programs within the banking domain. Engineering Leads are expected to foster a culture of innovation, automation, quality, continuous improvement, and operational excellence while ensuring successful delivery of business outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering Leadership
- Lead multiple engineering squads delivering complex banking solutions.
- Define engineering strategy, standards, and best practices.
- Drive engineering excellence, productivity improvements, and technical innovation.
- Establish development standards, code quality metrics, and governance controls.
- Mentor Technical Leads, Architects, and Senior Engineers.
Solution Delivery
- Own end-to-end technology delivery across programs and releases.
- Ensure commitments are delivered within agreed scope, timeline, quality, and budget.
- Manage dependencies across engineering, testing, DevOps, architecture, and business teams.
- Support release planning, capacity planning, and sprint governance.

Architecture & Design
- Collaborate with Enterprise and Solution Architects on technology roadmaps.
- Review solution designs to ensure scalability, resilience, maintainability, and security.
- Drive API-first, cloud-native, microservices-based engineering approaches.
- Ensure adherence to Bank's engineering and security standards.
Engineering Quality
- Champion test automation, code quality, security scanning, and performance engineering.
- Drive CI/CD adoption and DevSecOps practices.
- Monitor engineering metrics, technical debt, and platform stability.
- Improve system reliability, observability, and operational readiness.
Stakeholder Management
- Act as the primary technology contact for business and delivery stakeholders.
- Present engineering updates, risks, dependencies, and mitigation plans.
- Work closely with Product Owners, Customer Journey Managers, Delivery Managers, and Architects.
- Support governance forums and executive status reporting.
Team & People Leadership
- Lead distributed teams across multiple locations.
- Support hiring, onboarding, mentoring, and capability building.
- Conduct performance reviews and career development conversations.
- Drive a high-performance engineering culture.
Risk & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with Bank's governance, audit, security, and risk requirements.
- Manage operational risks and technology controls.
- Support production readiness reviews and regulatory initiatives.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Engineering / Computer Science / Technology.
- 12+ years of software engineering experience.
- 5+ years leading large engineering teams.
- Experience delivering large-scale banking transformation programs.
- Strong stakeholder management and leadership skills.
- Experience working in Agile / SAFe environments.
