Engineering & Technical Manager – Data Centre

Critical Engineering | Mission Critical | Data Centre

Location: East London / Docklands

Salary: £85,000 – £90,000 Basic + Car Allowance + Annual Bonus + Excellent Benefits

I'm partnering with a leading Global Facilities & Engineering organisation to appoint an experienced Engineering & Technical Manager to take responsibility for the engineering operation at a major Data Centre campus in East London.

This is a senior operational and technical leadership position, responsible for ensuring the safe, compliant, resilient and efficient operation of critical engineering infrastructure within a highly demanding Data Centre environment.

The Role

Reporting into senior account leadership, you will provide overall engineering and technical leadership across the site, working closely with the operational management team, engineering teams, contractors and senior client stakeholders.

You will be responsible for maintaining engineering standards, operational resilience and technical compliance across the Data Centre, while leading and developing the engineering team.

The role will cover:

  • Leadership and management of the engineering function
  • Electrical and mechanical critical infrastructure
  • HV/LV systems and Authorised Person activities
  • Planned and reactive maintenance
  • Technical governance and engineering compliance
  • Safe Systems of Work and Permit to Work
  • Critical incident management and escalation
  • Engineering risk management
  • Technical audits and assurance
  • Major maintenance and shutdown activities
  • Lifecycle and engineering improvement programmes
  • Contractor and specialist supplier management
  • Engineering team development, training and succession planning
  • Senior client and stakeholder engagement

Key Technical Responsibilities

You will act as a senior technical authority for the site, ensuring critical engineering systems and procedures operate to the highest standards.

This will include:

  • HV Authorised Person (HVAP) responsibility
  • Oversight of HV/LV switching and isolation procedures
  • Review and approval of SOPs, MOPs, EOPs, RAMS and switching schedules
  • Engineering risk assessment and mitigation
  • Technical investigations and Root Cause Analysis (RCA)
  • Incident management and lessons learned
  • Statutory and regulatory compliance
  • Critical maintenance planning and assurance
  • Supporting major shutdowns and engineering projects
  • Driving engineering standards and continuous improvement
  • Ensuring the site remains operationally resilient and highly available

About You

We're looking for a strong Engineering & Technical Manager who has built their career within a Data Centre, Mission Critical or similarly demanding engineering environment.

You should have:

  • Extensive Data Centre / Mission Critical engineering experience
  • Proven experience managing and leading engineering teams
  • Strong electrical engineering background
  • Current or recent HVAP status – ESSENTIAL
  • Strong understanding of HV/LV electrical infrastructure
  • Good working knowledge of mechanical / critical cooling systems
  • Experience with UPS, generators, switchgear and critical power systems
  • Strong understanding of engineering compliance, risk and governance
  • Experience with SOPs, MOPs, EOPs, RAMS and switching procedures
  • Experience managing critical incidents and technical investigations
  • Strong contractor and supplier management experience
  • Excellent communication and senior stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to lead, influence and develop engineering teams

The key requirement is credible technical and operational leadership within a Data Centre or Mission Critical environment.
