Engineering Technician
Location: RAF Brize Norton, Carterton, Oxfordshire, OX18 3LX
Salary Bands
- £48,400 – Supervisor Technician
- £44,000 – Producer Technician
Schedule: Full-time (40 hours/week), permanent Shift Pattern: 2 weeks of day shifts (08:00–17:00), 1 week of 4 evening shifts (16:00–02:00, Mon–Thu)
About the Role
Due to a contract upgrade, we require Engineering Structures Technicians with expertise in:
- Mechanical Engineering
- Automotive Engineering
- Manufacturing Engineering
- Marine Engineering
- Fabrication Engineering
Experience in aviation environments is beneficial but not mandatory. This hands-on role focuses on maintaining the structural integrity, reliability, and serviceability of the RAF Brize Norton’s C-17 Globemaster aircraft, including:
- Structural assessments
- Composite and metallic component work
- Aircraft fabrication and repairs
- Working in heat, at height, and in confined spaces
Based at the RAF’s largest operational base, you’ll contribute to global RAF air mobility missions as part of Serco’s multi-activity engineering support since 1997. Successful candidates will attend an intensive two-week specialist aircraft structural hand-skills course, followed by on-the-job training in:
- Precision riveting & engineering
- Sheet metal fabrication
- Working to tight tolerances

Main Accountabilities
As a Structures Aircraft Engineering Technician, you will:
- Conduct structural and mechanical assessments and damage evaluations
- Perform engineering repairs, including fabrication, corrosion treatment, and structural restoration
- Operate workshop machinery, mechanical tools, and fabrications equipment
- Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical manuals
- Use engineering IT systems to access data and update maintenance records
- Produce accurate engineering documentation with full traceability
- Collaborate with specialist engineering teams to ensure outputs meet compliance, certification, and airworthiness standards
- Maintain high quality control standards
Requirements
- Practical experience in mechanical, metallic fabrication, or precision engineering
- A recognised qualification in:
- Engineering
- Aviation Engineering (BTEC HNC/HND, NVQ, or equivalent)
- Relevant military engineering course
- Aircraft familiarity is advantageous but not essential – applications from diverse backgrounds are strongly encouraged
