Engineering Technician

Wayve's Hardware Engineering team designs, builds and integrates the physical systems that enable our AI Driver to operate on real-world vehicle platforms. The team works across vehicles, compute, sensors, electronics and test infrastructure to turn engineering ideas into reliable hardware that can be built, commissioned, tested and scaled.

Your day-to-day

As an Engineering Technician at Wayve, you'll work hands-on with the vehicles, compute platforms, sensors and Hardware-in-the-Loop setups that support development of our AI Driver. You'll build, test, commission, diagnose and rework complex hardware systems, working closely with hardware and software engineers to resolve issues quickly and improve how systems are assembled, validated and maintained. This is a practical workshop-based role with direct impact on prototype vehicles and engineering development.

What you’ll be working on:

  • Build, test and maintain vehicles and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) setups with high-performance compute and sensor systems.
  • Diagnose, repair and rework hardware system failures across compute systems, embedded modules, wiring harnesses, sensors and other hardware components.
  • Collaborate with hardware and software engineering teams to execute one-off tests of hardware configurations and assist in troubleshooting issues.
  • Maintain and manage workshop equipment, tools and inventory, ensuring an organised and efficient workspace.
  • Support prototype assembly and modifications, contributing to the continuous improvement of engineering designs.
  • Document workshop procedures, test results and system configurations to ensure reproducibility and consistency in testing.
  • Support initial bring-up and commissioning of vehicles and contribute to overall system integration improvements.
  • Stay up to date with emerging technologies and best practices in hardware systems, and bring practical tools such as 3D printing, Jira and AI-enabled workflows to workshop challenges.

You should apply if:

  • You have a tenacious, hands-on mindset and keep working a problem through until it is resolved.
  • You think beyond the immediate fix and understand the second- and third-order effects of technical decisions.
  • You have hands-on experience building wiring harnesses and can confidently read and work from wiring diagrams.
  • You have experience building complex systems in a fast-paced production or engineering environment.
  • You have strong organisational skills and can manage multiple tasks effectively in a dynamic environment.
  • You have excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities across complex hardware systems.
  • You work effectively with engineering teams and are comfortable providing practical technical support when needed.
  • You are passionate about learning, developing your technical expertise and contributing to the autonomy field.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Nice to have

  • You have hands-on experience building and maintaining autonomous vehicle hardware systems, including vehicles, compute platforms, sensors such as LiDAR, radar and cameras, and wiring harnesses.
  • You have prior experience flashing and commissioning hardware or embedded systems.
  • You have experience with change management and version control systems.

This is a full-time role based in our London office.

Not ticking every box? That’s totally okay! If you’re passionate about autonomy and keen to learn, we encourage you to apply even if you don’t meet every requirement.

More about Wayve:

Wayve is building the leading AI platform for autonomous driving. We are pioneering an end to end AI approach that enables vehicles to learn directly from real world experience, developing the ability to adapt, generalise and improve at scale. Instead of relying on hand coded rules or pre mapped environments, our AI Driver learns to drive by understanding the world around it. The result is technology that navigates complex urban environments with intelligence, precision and natural flow, unlocking meaningful advances in both safety and efficiency.

Our ambition is to make autonomy universal. Wayve’s mapless and hardware agnostic AI platform integrates with global OEM partners, enabling continuous software evolution and unlocking advanced levels of automation from L2 plus through to L4 as our core AI model scales. In a race increasingly defined by intelligence and real world learning, Wayve is taking a distinct approach, building a generalisable driving intelligence that can power any vehicle, anywhere. By combining embodied AI with scalable deployment, we are creating technology that can be shaped to each OEM brand and driver experience, accelerating the transition to a safer, more intelligent future of mobility.
