Job Description Summary
GE’s Power Conversion business, part of GE Vernova, provides electrification systems that are critical to customers’ power and energy needs for their high-performance applications. We work with some of the world’s major energy, maritime and industrial organisations, helping to enable a transition to energy efficiency and decarbonisation through our specialist motors, drives and control technologies.
We are looking for a motivated and technically minded Engineering Technician to join our manufacturing team. This role will involve mechanical fitting and sub-assembly preparation, supporting the build and preparation of machines and components for testing.
You will play a key role in ensuring equipment is assembled accurately and safely, working to engineering drawings, specifications and quality standards to support the successful delivery of our products.
Job Description
What You’ll Be Doing
- Carrying out mechanical fitting activities, including preparing and building machines for test and fitting drives and couplings.
- Preparing and assembling sub-assemblies, including mains and neutral terminal boxes, exciter bases and frames.
- Measuring components to tight tolerances using a range of precision measuring equipment, including micrometres, verniers, bore micrometres and DTI gauges.
- Reading and interpreting engineering drawings and specifications, ensuring components are assembled accurately and in accordance with requirements.
- Working to defined instructions, quality standards and engineering procedures.
- Completing quality documentation accurately and ensuring all required records are maintained.
- Maintaining a clean, organised and safe working environment in line with 5S principles.
- Following all Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) procedures and safe working practices.
- Working collaboratively with engineering, manufacturing and quality teams to achieve production targets and deadlines.
- Supporting other manufacturing and assembly activities when required.
- Contributing to a culture of continuous improvement across the manufacturing environment.

Essential Skills & Experience
- Previous experience of mechanical and electrical fitting within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
- Ability to read and work accurately from engineering drawings and schematics.
- Understanding of geometric tolerances and common engineering drawing symbols.
- Experience using precision measuring equipment such as micrometres, verniers, bore micrometers and DTI gauges.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
- Ability to follow work instructions, processes and quality standards accurately.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Ability to use own initiative and work proactively to meet production targets and deadlines.
- Strong commitment to EHS and maintaining a safe working environment.
- Willingness to work shifts, specifically late shift, and provide flexibility to support overtime requirements.
Right to Work in the UK
Desirable Skills & Knowledge
- Experience working with large rotating electrical machines, motors or generators.
- Experience working within a Lean Manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of 5S and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Experience working with tight engineering tolerances and precision measurement equipment.
- Previous experience in a high-volume or technically demanding manufacturing environment.
Additional Information
Shift Pattern:
- Monday to Thursday – 7am to 3.30pm, and,
- Friday – 7am to 12.15pm
