English Academic Coach

Opportunity to train as an English teacher (salaried route)

The Role

Join the English department in a developmental role designed to build your classroom confidence before teacher training. You will support pupils through 1:1 intervention, small-group academic work, lesson support, and targeted help with reading, writing, analysis, and exam preparation, while learning from experienced staff in a busy secondary setting.

The Candidate

  • Articulate, organized, and able to explain ideas clearly in a way pupils understand
  • Want proper secondary school experience
  • Enjoy helping students improve in English
  • See this as a genuine route into teaching rather than just another temporary role

Requirements

  • Degree – A 2:2 or above in English, English Literature, Creative Writing, or a related subject
  • Communication – Clear and confident verbal and written communication
  • Enhanced DBS – Must hold or be willing to obtain an Enhanced DBS certificate
  • Desire to work in education/with children – Genuine interest in supporting pupil progress and wellbeing
  • Career Goals – A desire to train as a teacher and build a long-term career in education

This unique secondary school in central Birmingham offers a strong setting for a graduate who wants to prove themselves in the classroom and then progress. You will work closely with an established English team in a setting that values subject knowledge, purposeful intervention, and future teachers. It is a strong opportunity for someone who wants to develop in school first and then move into a salaried route towards becoming a qualified English teacher.
