About the Museum
The War Childhood Museum Ukraine is an independent institution documenting the experiences of people whose childhoods have been or continue to be affected by war. Our archive primarily focuses on stories related to the Russo-Ukrainian War, while also documenting testimonies from those who were children during World War II and other armed conflicts. Through exhibitions in Ukraine and internationally, our mission is to make the public narrative of war more inclusive by giving everyone an opportunity to share their story.
Role Overview
We are looking for an English-Language Editor for project-based collaboration, with the possibility of a long-term partnership. The Editor will work with personal stories from the Museum’s archive that have been translated from Ukrainian into English. Preserving each person’s authentic voice, emotional nuance, and original context, without unnecessary literary intervention, is central to this role.

Key Responsibilities
- Review and edit machine-translated personal stories from Ukrainian into English (approx. 20–30 stories per month).
- Refine grammar, vocabulary, clarity, and natural flow while strictly preserving original meaning.
- Safeguard the context and emotional authenticity of each testimony.
- Handle sensitive personal accounts and experiences of war with care, empathy, and professional ethics.
Skills & Qualifications
- Professional experience editing English-language texts.
- English proficiency at C1–C2 level or native-level fluency.
- Demonstrated ability to edit translated texts without making substantial literary alterations.
- Exceptional attention to detail and context.
- High ethical standards and sensitivity when working with war-related content.
- Reliability and commitment to meeting agreed deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and communicate clearly in a remote environment.
- Experience working with translations, personal stories, documentary materials, or sensitive content is preferred.
