The English, Maths and ESOL Coordinator
The English, Maths and ESOL Coordinator role is a key coordination position that supports the successful delivery, monitoring and improvement of English, Maths and ESOL provision across the college. While the role includes important administrative processes, its main focus is coordinating learner progress activity, using attendance and performance data to identify risks and skills gaps, supporting targeted intervention, and ensuring key operational processes run smoothly. The postholder will work closely with lecturers, Teaching and Learning Managers, the Curriculum support administrator, and the Head of Learning to help ensure learners are supported to make progress and achieve.
Main Purpose
- Coordinate key operational processes that support the successful delivery of the English, Maths and ESOL curriculum.
- Monitor learner attendance, progress and achievement, using data and tracking systems to identify risks and support timely interventions.
- Work closely with Teaching and Learning Managers, lecturers and support teams to drive learner success and meet departmental targets.
- Operate independently under the direction of the Head of Learning, managing priorities and ensuring actions are delivered accurately and on time.
Key Responsibilities
Learner Progress and Performance
- Monitor learner attendance, engagement, assessment outcomes and achievement across English, Maths and ESOL provision.
- Analyse learner performance data, including mock assessments, to identify skills gaps and areas for improvement.
- Support targeted intervention planning by highlighting learners at risk and recommending priority actions.
- Use Century and other agreed platforms to assign learning activities that address identified development needs.
- Support staff in the effective use of eTracker and other systems to monitor learner progress and achievement.

Exams and Assessment Coordination
- Coordinate the administration of GCSE and Functional Skills examinations, ensuring processes are planned and delivered effectively.
- Organise invigilation requirements and liaise with curriculum and exams teams to support smooth examination delivery.
- Maintain accurate records of learner entries, results and follow-up actions.
- Act as a key liaison between curriculum, exams and management teams, helping to reduce administrative pressures on teaching staff.
Attendance Monitoring
- Monitor attendance daily and identify patterns of concern using college reporting systems.
- Work closely with Curriculum Support colleagues to maintain accurate attendance records and follow up issues promptly.
- Contact learners and next of kin where appropriate, in line with college procedures.
- Ensure registers are completed accurately and support register audits across curriculum areas.
Data Management and Reporting
- Produce and maintain accurate reports on attendance, learner progress, intervention activity and achievement risks.
- Prepare data for internal reports and external returns, including CIS submissions.
- Maintain accurate learner information systems and databases to support effective decision-making.
- Identify and escalate emerging trends, risks and performance concerns to managers.
Enrolment and Learner Administration
- Coordinate enrolment enquiries, late starters and learner transfers.
- Update timetables, Individual Support Plans (ISPs) and learner records as required.
- Undertake eligibility checks for Adult and ESOL learners.
- Organise screening activities and track learner enrolment and progression throughout the learner journey.
What You Will Need
- Level 2 qualifications in English and Maths or willing to work within 12 months of starting position
- Award in Education and Training qualification or willingness to work within 12 months of starting position
