Job description
A nurturing and well-established SEMH school in Wythenshawe is looking for a Qualified English Teacher to join their close-knit team.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced teacher who is confident working with SEMH pupils and challenging behaviours. The school supports students with a range of additional needs and provides a structured, supportive environment focused on both academic progress and personal development.
The school has very small class sizes of around 5 students, with 2 Teaching Assistants and a HLTA also supporting within the classroom, providing a high level of individual support.
About the role
- Deliver engaging and accessible English lessons to KS3 and KS4 pupils with SEMH and additional needs
- Adapt lessons to meet individual learning needs and abilities
- Confidently manage and respond to challenging behaviours using positive behaviour strategies
- Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils and create a calm, consistent classroom environment
- Integrate EHCP targets into teaching and support students' academic and personal development
- Develop students' literacy skills, including reading, writing, communication and comprehension
- Assess and track progress across academic, social-emotional and independence skills
- Work closely with TAs, HLTAs and the wider school team to support individual pupils
- Support students to develop confidence, resilience and positive attitudes towards learning

Who we're looking for
- QTS or QTLS – ECTs will be considered, although an experienced teacher is preferred
- Previous experience working with SEMH pupils is highly desirable
- Experience supporting pupils with challenging behaviour and confidence in managing behaviours that may present within an SEMH setting
- Experience working within a SEND, SEMH, alternative provision or similar environment
- Strong classroom and behaviour management skills
- Ability to adapt teaching to meet a range of individual needs
- Resilient, patient and empathetic approach
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Recognised degree in any subject
