  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS): Holds QTS, QTLS, or an equivalent recognised UK teaching qualification.
  • Enhanced DBS: A valid Enhanced DBS clearance registered on the Update Service (or a willingness for one).
  • References: Provision of full, verifiable professional references covering the last 2 years.
  • Eligibility to Work: Valid legal entitlement to work full-time in the UK.

  • Classroom Management: Proactive strategies that encourage high standards of behaviour, mutual respect, and focused learning.
  • Differentiation: Skill in adapting teaching methods to stretch high achievers while supporting struggling learners.
  • Data Literacy: Ability to interpret student performance metrics to inform future lesson planning and targeted support.
  • Digital Competency: Proficiency using interactive classroom tech, interactive whiteboards, and digital learning platforms.
  • Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills for engaging students, parents, and colleagues clearly.
  • Literacy Focus: Dedicated approach to improving whole-school reading comprehension, vocabulary expansion, and writing fluency.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality, fully differentiated English lessons across KS3 and KS4 (and optional KS5) aligned with the national curriculum.
  2. Regularly evaluate and mark student work in accordance with department guidelines, providing actionable feedback to accelerate progress.
  3. Prepare pupils thoroughly for GCSE English Language and English Literature examinations using precise assessment techniques.
  4. Establish and maintain a purposeful, safe, and positive learning environment using effective classroom management strategies.
  5. Monitor individual student attainment, tracking progress data to identify learning gaps and implement targeted interventions.
  6. Support diverse learning needs, collaborating with the SEND team to adapt resources for pupils with additional educational needs or EHCPs.
  7. Contribute to the continuous development of scheme-of-work resources and curriculum planning within the English department.
  8. Engage actively in departmental meetings, whole-school INSET days, and continuous professional development (CPD) sessions.
  9. Maintain clear and consistent communication with parents and carers through progress reports, parents evenings, and academic reviews.
  10. Fulfill pastoral duties as a Form Tutor, promoting student well-being, attendance, and positive behaviour throughout.
