English Mentor – UK | Remote

About the Role

We are seeking a confident, knowledgeable, and learner-focused English Mentor to join our remote mentoring network. The successful candidate will be responsible for helping learners improve their English proficiency, communication abilities, writing skills, and confidence in both academic and professional settings. This opportunity is ideal for English educators, language trainers, tutors, communication specialists, corporate trainers, and experienced professionals who enjoy mentoring and developing learners through structured and engaging online sessions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging and interactive one-to-one and group mentoring sessions through online platforms.
  • Assess learners' existing English proficiency and identify areas for improvement.
  • Develop personalized learning approaches based on individual learner goals, proficiency levels, and career requirements.
  • Mentor learners in grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, speaking, listening, reading, and writing.
  • Help learners build confidence in professional and everyday English communication.
  • Provide practical guidance on professional emails, presentations, reports, meetings, interviews, and workplace conversations.
  • Conduct speaking and communication exercises designed to improve fluency, clarity, pronunciation, and confidence.
  • Support learners with academic writing, business communication, presentations, and professional documentation where applicable.
  • Create and deliver practical assignments, exercises, assessments, and learning activities.
  • Provide timely, constructive, and actionable feedback on learner performance.
  • Monitor learner progress and maintain appropriate records of development and participation.
  • Identify individual learning gaps and recommend targeted activities or resources for improvement.
  • Encourage learners to actively participate in discussions, role plays, presentations, and practical communication exercises.
  • Create a positive, inclusive, and motivating online learning environment.
  • Use real-world examples, case scenarios, and practical situations to make learning relevant and engaging.
  • Incorporate digital learning tools and interactive resources to enhance the online mentoring experience.
  • Support learners in preparing for English-language interviews, presentations, workplace interactions, and other professional situations.
  • Continuously improve mentoring techniques based on learner feedback and performance.
  • Collaborate with the wider mentoring and academic team to enhance learning content and learner outcomes.
  • Maintain professional communication and ensure a consistent, high-quality mentoring experience.

Requirements

  • Excellent command of written and spoken English.
  • Bachelor's degree in English, Education, Linguistics, Communication, or a related discipline is preferred.
  • Previous experience in English teaching, tutoring, mentoring, coaching, training, or communication-focused roles.
  • Strong understanding of English grammar, sentence structure, vocabulary, and communication principles.
  • Excellent verbal, written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to explain concepts clearly and adapt communication according to different learner levels.
  • Strong learner-management and interpersonal skills.
  • Comfortable conducting online sessions and working with digital learning platforms.
  • Strong time-management, organization, and planning skills.
  • A patient, supportive, and learner-centric approach.
  • Ability to provide constructive feedback and motivate learners toward continuous improvement.

Preferred Qualifications

  • TEFL, TESOL, CELTA, or another recognized English-language teaching qualification.
  • Experience working with university students, graduates, job seekers, or working professionals.
  • Experience in Business English or professional communication.
  • Experience with interview preparation, presentation skills, academic writing, or workplace communication.
  • Previous experience delivering virtual training or mentoring programs.
  • Familiarity with Learning Management Systems (LMS), virtual classrooms, and digital collaboration tools.
  • Experience developing educational content, lesson plans, assessments, or learning resources.
