About The Role
As Principal Architect, you’ll take on the most senior technical leadership role supporting one of BT Business’s largest and most complex UK banking customers. You’ll shape enterprise architecture across a critical technology environment, working closely with senior customer stakeholders and BT teams to create a clear multi-year technology strategy and roadmap. This is an opportunity to act as a trusted adviser at CIO level, influencing strategic technology decisions and delivering secure, resilient solutions that support the customer’s evolving business needs.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Lead the technical relationship with the customer, acting as a trusted adviser to senior stakeholders up to CIO level and contributing to the account leadership team.
- Develop a multi-year technology and solution roadmap with key customer stakeholders, bringing together their strategic priorities, industry developments and BT’s technology portfolio.
- Manage architectural and technical governance, identifying risks and ensuring issues are understood, mitigated and resolved effectively.
- Provide technical leadership across virtual and operational teams, particularly during major incidents or situations where customer service is at risk.
- Partner with commercial and delivery teams to create customer value, support sustainable revenue and EBIT growth, and improve delivery quality and customer experience.

Essential Skills / Experience
- Enterprise architecture leadership: Strong experience developing complex enterprise architectures, technology strategies and roadmaps, with the ability to turn business requirements into practical solutions.
- Senior stakeholder leadership: Excellent communication, influencing and relationship-management skills, including the ability to advise and present complex technology decisions clearly to senior and C-suite stakeholders.
- Technical and commercial judgement: Broad technology knowledge combined with experience of solution delivery, architectural governance and risk management, enabling you to balance customer, technical and commercial priorities.
Desirable Skills / Experience
- Enterprise networking, including WAN, LAN, Wi-Fi, SD-WAN, segmentation and software-defined networking.
- Cyber security technologies and approaches such as Zero Trust, IAM, IDS/IPS, SASE, firewalls and secure access.
- Proxy and network security technologies from providers such as Palo Alto, Broadcom/Blue Coat, Ivanti or Cisco.
- Collaboration, voice and contact centre solutions, including Microsoft Teams, Cisco, Avaya or Genesys.
- Public and private cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS or Google Cloud.
- Infrastructure as Code and network tooling, including Terraform or NetBrain.
- Architecture and service methodologies such as TOGAF, MBSE, ITIL or DevOps.
- Experience within policing, government, critical national infrastructure or another highly regulated environment.
