Lead Enterprise Engineer / Architect – Cybersecurity
Location: Sheffield
Working Pattern: Hybrid – 3 days per week onsite
Industry: Banking / Financial Services

The Role
We are seeking an experienced Lead Enterprise Engineer / Architect to help establish and develop an Engineering Excellence Practice within a major global banking organisation.
You will work across Cybersecurity Technology & Engineering to improve engineering standards, DevSecOps practices, automation and delivery efficiency. This is a senior, engineering-led position requiring someone who can operate both strategically and technically across complex, globally distributed teams.
The successful candidate will have extensive experience as a Senior Engineer or Technical Architect, with a strong background in DevOps, engineering transformation and continuous improvement within large organisations.
Key Responsibilities
- Help establish an Engineering Excellence programme across Cybersecurity.
- Build a community of practice that promotes engineering consistency, automation, standardisation and continuous improvement.
- Define and embed engineering best practices, processes, systems and tooling.
- Partner with engineering leads and capability owners to improve technical delivery and operational efficiency.
- Lead the creation, evolution and adoption of standard build and deployment pipelines.
- Improve DevSecOps practices and the integration of cybersecurity services into engineering pipelines.
- Identify and implement reusable engineering patterns, standards and approaches.
- Promote a “build once, use many times” culture through inner sourcing and cross-functional reuse.
- Coach Agile engineering teams across the full journey from concept and product development through to customer adoption.
- Support proof-of-concept initiatives for new services, features and improvements to existing platforms.
- Ensure engineering requirements cover security controls, scalability, resilience, quality and operational effectiveness.
- Partner with product teams to ensure non-functional engineering requirements are included during external product selection.
- Influence senior stakeholders and drive strategic engineering improvement plans across a complex, matrixed organisation.

Essential Experience
- Strong DevOps experience at both hands-on engineering and solution-design level.
- Extensive experience working as a Senior Engineer, Lead Engineer, Enterprise Architect or Technical Architect.
- Proven experience leading or significantly contributing to engineering improvement or transformation programmes.
- Experience establishing engineering standards, reusable patterns and best practices.
- Strong knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, automation and modern software delivery practices.
- Experience improving DevSecOps maturity across multiple engineering teams.
- Proven ability to operate within large, complex and highly regulated organisations.
- Experience working with distributed, cross-functional and globally decentralised teams.
- Strong understanding of systems engineering and requirements management.
- Experience working within design authorities and engineering governance frameworks.
- Demonstrable knowledge of engineering quality, security, risk, safety and compliance.
- Strong leadership, stakeholder management and influencing skills.
- Ability to translate complex technical, commercial and regulatory requirements into clear, actionable outcomes.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Degree or equivalent experience in Engineering, Computer Science or a related technical discipline.

Desirable Experience
- Previous experience within banking, financial services or another highly regulated industry.
- Strong understanding of cybersecurity engineering, tools, controls and industry standards.
- Experience building engineering communities of practice or centres of excellence.
- Knowledge of secure software development and cybersecurity service integration.
- Experience presenting technical strategies and designs to senior leadership and design authorities.
