Enterprise Architect – Technology Strategy

Location: Manchester

Contract Length: 12 months

Start Date: ASAP

Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced Enterprise Architect to support the development and delivery of enterprise-wide technology strategy across cloud, data, infrastructure and application domains.

The successful candidate will work closely with senior technology and business leaders to define strategic direction, assess emerging technologies and ensure architectural consistency across major transformation programmes. This role requires someone who can combine deep technical knowledge with the ability to influence investment decisions at executive level.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define, develop and continuously evolve enterprise architecture strategies and technology roadmaps.
  • Establish technical direction across cloud, data, infrastructure and application architecture.
  • Ensure architectural coherence and alignment across complex programmes and transformation initiatives.
  • Apply expertise across cloud-native architectures, including Azure, AWS and GCP.
  • Provide strategic guidance covering microservices, API gateways, containerisation and CI/CD.
  • Assess emerging technologies and industry trends, including artificial intelligence, digital assets and composable architecture.
  • Identify opportunities where new technologies can improve scalability, efficiency, resilience and business performance.
  • Engage with senior stakeholders across the CTO function, Group Executive Committee and IT Board.
  • Shape technology investment decisions through clear architectural recommendations and strategic analysis.
  • Translate complex technical concepts into concise executive-level narratives, presentations and recommendations.
  • Develop reusable enterprise architecture principles, standards and design patterns.
  • Provide architectural governance and assurance across technology portfolios and programmes.

Essential Experience

  • Strong experience operating as an Enterprise Architect within a large and complex organisation.
  • Proven experience defining enterprise architecture strategies and technology roadmaps.
  • Broad technical expertise across cloud, infrastructure, data and application architecture.
  • Strong knowledge of Azure, AWS and/or GCP cloud-native environments.
  • Experience with microservices, APIs, API gateways, containers and CI/CD delivery models.
  • Strong understanding of modern enterprise architecture principles, governance and operating models.
  • Experience assessing emerging technologies and translating them into practical enterprise use cases.
  • Ability to influence senior stakeholders and shape strategic technology investment decisions.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex technical information for executive audiences.
  • Experience working across multiple programmes to maintain architectural alignment and consistency.

Desirable Experience

  • Previous experience within a CTO, technology strategy or enterprise transformation function.
  • Knowledge of artificial intelligence, digital assets and composable enterprise architecture.
  • Experience presenting recommendations to executive committees or technology boards.
  • Background working within a regulated, financial services or large-scale enterprise environment.
  • Familiarity with recognised enterprise architecture frameworks such as TOGAF.
