Base Salary & Benefits

  • Base salary: £54,878-£64,562 per annum, depending on skills and experience
  • Flexible Benefits Fund: 20% of base salary, paid top-up, and tax-advantaged
  • Pension: Fund is fully pensionable

About the Role

The Enterprise Architect is responsible for developing, designing, implementing, and governing HS2’s Enterprise Architecture ensuring technology’s alignment with business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements enterprise-wide architecture principles, policies, patterns, processes, and guardrails to ensure strategic adherence.
  • Designs and reviews an enterprise capability strategy to meet HS2’s strategic needs.
  • Defines and matures agile Enterprise Architecture frameworks while influencing the development of strategic domain architectures (e.g. Data, Security, Network, Integration).
  • Captures, prioritises market/environmental trends, business strategies, and objectives for seamless alignment with HS2’s technology strategy.
  • Produces architectural artefacts (e.g. models, documents) aligned with strategy, policy, and standards.
  • Translates business drivers, goals, and constraints into business objectives and technical frameworks.
  • Enforces architecture guardrails across solution/system design (network, service, data, etc.).
  • Contributes to HS2’s technology innovation agenda.
  • Supports Business Analysts in requirements capture.
  • Directs, supports delivery managers, and oversees IT change across the business.
  • Champions Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI)—acting in compliance with all related initiatives, policies, and procedures.

About You

Core Requirements

Experience

  • Design and implementation of IT services and Architectural Building Blocks.
  • Design for complex solutions, including risks/remedial measures.
  • High-level designs for major solutions—managing requirements and audit trails.
  • Application of Enterprise Architecture methods in complex scenarios.
  • Proficiency in Enterprise Architecture tooling, integration, and notations.
  • Experience across the full project lifecycle (initiation to decommissioning).
  • Collaboration with business & technology partners, and multi-vendor environments.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Agile methods (implications for Enterprise Architecture).
  • Enterprise Architecture frameworks (TOGAF, Zachman, etc.), methodologies, and industry best practices.
  • Understanding of emerging technologies (cloud computing, AI, big data, etc.).
  • Familiarity with delivery models (Agile, Waterfall, Hybrid).
  • Industry business models, processes, and functional areas.

Soft Skills

  • Governance & assurance (technical governance/management):
    • Ability to understand and contribute to service assurance.
  • Problem definition and strategic context: Awareness of priorities.
  • Agile coaching & leadership in Lean/Agile principles.
  • Stakeholder communication (all levels): managing expectations.
