Full Time (37 hours per week) - Fixed Term Contract (23 months) - High Wycombe

Salary: £44,746 - £56,535 plus Market supplement will be considered

This exciting role will be working closely with Digital Transformation, Systems Development, Infrastructure, Data, and business stakeholders. The postholder will provide architectural oversight for major initiatives, advise on solution design, and ensure coherent evolution of the University’s systems estate.

Some Of The Responsibilities Will Include

  • Define and maintain the University’s enterprise architecture principles, standards, and target-state architecture.
  • Provide architectural oversight and design assurance for major programmes and projects.
  • Ensure alignment between business strategy, application architecture, data architecture, and integration patterns.

Responsible for: Enterprise Architecture Strategy & Standards

Job Purpose

The Enterprise Architect provides strategic technical leadership across the University’s application, data, and integration landscape. The role is responsible for defining and maintaining the enterprise architecture framework, ensuring that technology investments align with institutional strategy, architectural principles, security standards, and long-term sustainability objectives.

Working closely with Digital Transformation, Systems Development, Infrastructure, Data, and business stakeholders, the postholder provides architectural oversight for major initiatives, advises on solution design, and ensures coherent evolution of the University’s systems estate. The role safeguards technical integrity, reduces architectural risk, and prevents fragmentation of the technology landscape through structured governance and forward-looking planning.

Main Duties & Responsibilities Of The Role

  • Define and maintain the University’s enterprise architecture principles, standards, and target-state architecture.
  • Provide architectural oversight and design assurance for major programmes and projects.
  • Ensure alignment between business strategy, application architecture, data architecture, and integration patterns.
  • Advise on technology selection, integration approaches, and technical risk mitigation.
  • Promote architectural consistency, sustainability, and security across the systems landscape.
  • Contribute to digital investment governance and long-term technology roadmap planning.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant security, regulatory, and information governance standards.
  • Comply with relevant legislative and other requirements (e.g., the Data Protection Act 2018 and GDPR; Health and Safety; UKVI; and Equality and Diversity) in all working practices.
  • Such other duties temporarily or on a continuing basis, as may reasonably be required.

PERSON SPECIFICATION - Essential Criteria Only

Education, Qualifications & Training

  • Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related discipline (or equivalent demonstrable experience) A
  • Recognised architecture qualification (e.g., TOGAF or equivalent) or demonstrable enterprise architecture experience A
  • Evidence of continued professional development in enterprise or solution architecture A

Knowledge & Experience

  • Extensive experience in enterprise, solution, or application architecture within complex organisations A/I
  • Experience designing integration architectures and data exchange frameworks A/I
  • Experience aligning technology strategy with business transformation initiatives A/I
  • Experience working with cloud-based platforms and modern application architectures A/I
  • Experience operating within governance-driven or regulated environments A/I
  • Experience in Higher Education (desirable but advantageous) A/I

Skills

  • Strong strategic and systems thinking capability A
  • Ability to translate business strategy into technical architecture A
