Reporting to the UK Head of Enterprise Risk Management (ERM)

This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping and strengthening the risk management framework of Societe Generale London Branch (SGLB) and Societe Generale International Limited (SGIL).

As a key member of the UK Risk Division, you will work at the intersection of risk strategy, regulatory change, governance, and capital adequacy, partnering with senior stakeholders across the Bank, Head Office, and international regions. The role offers significant exposure to executive decision-making, regulatory engagement, and cross-functional initiatives that directly influence the Bank's risk profile and strategic direction.

Our Culture

At Societe Generale CIB, we expect all our people to demonstrate sound judgement, personal accountability, and a commitment to acting responsibly and with integrity. We value an environment where concerns can be raised openly, risks are managed proactively, and our conduct standards are lived - not just documented. If that resonates with how you work, we want to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and contribute to the design, enhancement, and implementation of core enterprise risk management processes, including Risk Identification, Risk Appetite governance, and the ongoing development of the Risk Management Framework.
  • Provide independent risk oversight and second line of defence challenge across key risk management activities for SGLB and SGIL.
  • Support the production and review of the Internal Capital Adequacy Assessment Process (ICAAP), including developing independent opinions on capital adequacy and key risk considerations.
  • Deliver regular assessments of the Bank's risk profile, risk governance arrangements, and emerging risk landscape.
  • Coordinate regulatory horizon scanning activities, analysing forthcoming regulatory developments and assessing their potential impact on the organisation.
  • Collaborate closely with global ERM teams across Europe, Asia, the Americas, and Group Head Office, contributing to international initiatives and the evolution of Group-wide risk management practices.
  • Own and coordinate the ongoing maintenance and annual review of key risk governance documents, including: Risk Appetite Framework (RAF), Risk Appetite Statement (RAS), Risk Management Framework (RMF).
  • Ensure alignment of local frameworks with Group standards and evolving regulatory expectations.
  • Drive and enhance risk identification and assessment programmes, facilitating periodic risk assessment exercises across the business.
  • Prepare high-quality governance materials, reports, presentations, and executive summaries for senior committees and decision-making forums.
  • Lead or contribute to strategic projects and transformation initiatives that support the advancement of risk management capabilities.
  • Promote a strong risk culture across the organisation by championing effective governance, risk awareness, and best practice standards.
  • Stay abreast of market trends, industry developments, and regulatory changes, providing insight and thought leadership to support effective risk management and business decision-making.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
