We are seeking an Environmental Advisor (Waste) to join our growing team, supporting the delivery of a major nuclear infrastructure programme. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in driving environmental performance across a high-profile project, helping to ensure sustainable delivery, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence within a highly regulated environment.
Working as part of the SHEQ and Environmental Team, you will provide professional waste management and environmental support to project delivery teams, ensuring waste is managed safely, compliantly, and efficiently throughout the project lifecycle. You will collaborate closely with operational teams, subcontractors and stakeholders to minimise environmental impact, maximise waste recovery opportunities and support continuous improvement initiatives.
This role offers the opportunity to influence sustainability outcomes on one of the UK's most significant infrastructure programmes while developing your expertise within a collaborative and supportive environment.
Role Responsibilities
- Provide environmental and waste management advice and guidance to project teams.
- Support compliance with environmental legislation, company standards, and client requirements.
- Assist in the development, implementation, and review of Waste Management Plans.
- Monitor waste generation, segregation, storage, tracking, and disposal activities.
- Support waste classification, sentencing and disposal route selection processes.
- Conduct environmental and waste inspections, audits, and assurance activities.
- Investigate environmental incidents, non-conformances, and improvement opportunities.
- Support corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Promote waste minimisation, reuse, recycling, and sustainability best practice.
- Assist with environmental reporting, data management, and performance monitoring.
- Deliver environmental awareness briefings and share lessons learned across project teams.
- Maintain accurate waste management records and documentation.
- Build effective working relationships with operational teams, subcontractors, and key stakeholders.
- Support the achievement of project and programme environmental objectives.

Skills, Experience And Qualifications
- GCSEs or equivalent qualifications.
- Membership of IEMA, CIWM or an equivalent professional body is desirable.
- Experience providing environmental or waste management support within construction, infrastructure, industrial or related environments.
- Knowledge of environmental legislation, compliance requirements, and waste management processes.
- Experience supporting waste identification, classification, segregation, storage, and disposal activities.
- Experience conducting inspections, audits, and compliance reviews.
- Experience supporting incident investigations and corrective action programmes.
- Experience working alongside project delivery teams, contractors, and subcontractors.
- Experience operating within regulated, safety-critical, or high-hazard environments.
- Knowledge of waste tracking, record keeping, and reporting requirements.
- Understanding of environmental assurance processes and continuous improvement principles.
- Effective communication, stakeholder engagement, and influencing skills.
- Good organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Initiative-taking approach to problem-solving and environmental risk management.
- Local Clearance Coordinator (LCC) and Plant Solid Waste Consignor/Coordinator (PSWC) experience is desirable.
- Knowledge of nuclear industry waste management processes is advantageous.
- Experience within the nuclear, construction or major infrastructure sectors is desirable.
- Experience delivering environmental awareness briefings and sharing best practice is advantageous.
- Professional accreditation through IEMA, CIWM or a similar recognised body is desirable.
- Commitment to sustainability, environmental compliance, and continual improvement.
