Overview

My client is a leading, civil engineering contractor who are currently going through a steady growth period. Due to a recent framework win they are looking to expand their SHEQ team with an experienced SHEQ Manager to continue building on their strong safety culture. You will be based out of the client office in Newport, travelling to sites across South Wales as required.

Role Responsibilities

  • Provide professional leadership and advice to the business on safety, health, environment, sustainability, and competence assurance, upholding and improving standards across the business.
  • Develop, implement, and improve SHE best practice, ensuring compliance with legislation, industry standards, company policies, and approved codes of practice.
  • Work proactively with managers and teams to embed a positive safety culture at all levels of the business.
  • Act as the subject matter expert for SHEQ, advising on action plans, audits, inspections, risk assessments, investigations, and policy deployment.
  • Identify safety training needs and deliver or coordinate programmes that improve staff and management competence.
  • Monitor, analyse, and report SHE performance data to identify trends, ensure compliance, and drive improvement through targeted action plans.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with regulators, local authorities, clients, and internal stakeholders.
  • Support the development, implementation and consistent application of policies, procedures, and compliance requirements across projects.

  • NEBOSH General or Construction Certificate is essential.
  • NEBOSH or Level 6 Applied Occupational Health Diploma is desirable.
  • CertIOSH/CMIOSH is desirable
  • A background in water infrastructure or civil engineering is highly advantageous
  • CSCS card.
  • Demonstrable achievement in a similar role
  • A working knowledge of current and impending health & safety legislation and best practice in safety, health, and environmental management.
