About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Health and Safety Manager (SHEQ) to lead a SHEQ function across multiple business units and nationwide operations. This is a senior leadership position responsible for driving a positive health, safety, environmental, and quality culture, ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation, and maintaining key ISO accreditations.
You will provide strategic SHEQ direction, operational leadership, and expert advice to directors, managers, and site teams — ensuring the highest standards of performance, risk management, and governance are achieved across all projects and activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the Responsible Person for all SHEQ matters, providing strategic direction and leadership across all business units.
- Lead a company-wide SHEQ transformation programme, embedding a culture of continuous improvement and accountability.
- Manage and maintain certification to ISO 9001, ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and ISO 50001 standards.
- Conduct regular audits, inspections, and risk assessments, ensuring compliance with all statutory and corporate requirements.
- Deliver SHEQ performance reports, KPI analysis, and Board updates to the senior management team.
- Lead investigations into incidents, near misses, and non-conformances, ensuring effective root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Develop and implement effective training programmes, toolbox talks, and behavioural safety initiatives.
- Liaise with external stakeholders including the HSE, Environment Agency, Local Authorities, and certification bodies.
- Oversee maintenance of accreditations such as CHAS, Construction line, and other relevant professional bodies.
- Support teams in achieving compliance with CDM 2015, the Building Safety Act 2022, and other sector-specific regulations.
- Promote staff well-being initiatives and workplace safety programmes including mental health first aid.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
