Health, Safety and Environmental Manager
Location: Based out of Blaydon, Newcastle
Salary: 50-70k + Company Vehicle or car allowance
Contract: Full time, permanent
At Holystone, we deliver demolition, earthworks, remediation, roads and sewers, groundworks, muck disposal and recycled aggregates. We’re looking for an experienced Health, Safety and Environmental Manager to help keep our people safe and manage the environmental impact of our operations.
This is a hands-on role working closely with directors, site teams and subcontractors. You’ll turn requirements into practical working methods, support safe delivery and drive improvements across the business.
Your responsibilities
- Lead and develop our health, safety and environmental policies, procedures and improvement plans.
- Conduct site inspections and audits, ensuring corrective actions are completed.
- Review risk assessments and method statements with operational teams.
- Support the management of risks involving excavations, underground services, plant movements, contaminated materials, dust and material handling.
- Oversee environmental controls relating to waste and material movements, pollution prevention, dust, noise and water protection.
- Support compliance with applicable environmental permits, waste documentation and requirements for recycled aggregates.
- Investigate incidents, near misses and environmental events, sharing lessons across the business.
- Deliver toolbox talks and training, building confidence and accountability at every level.
- Work with clients, contractors and relevant authorities, and report performance to senior management.

What we’re looking for
- Health and safety management experience in civil engineering, groundworks, earthworks or a related construction environment.
- A relevant health and safety qualification, such as a NEBOSH qualification or equivalent appropriate to the role.
- Practical experience managing environmental matters, ideally involving remediation, waste handling or recycled aggregates.
- An environmental qualification would be an advantage.
- A confident, approachable communicator who can challenge unsafe practices and help teams find practical solutions.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage priorities across multiple sites.
