Role: Environmental Health and Safety Manager / SHE Manager

A leading FMCG manufacturer is currently recruiting for an Environmental Health and Safety Manager / SHE Manager in Blackpool.

Responsibilities

The EHS Manager / Environmental Health and Safety Manager / SHE Manager will be responsible for:

  • Leading, managing, and continuously improving all aspects of health and safety performance across the Blackpool manufacturing site.
  • Acting as the site's HSE expert, championing a proactive "Safety First" culture.
  • Ensuring compliance with Irish health and safety legislation, company standards, and ISO management systems.
  • Working closely with Operations, Production, Planning, Sales, Finance, and leadership teams to drive initiatives that protect people, minimise environmental impact, and support operational excellence through continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and implementation of a proactive "Safety First" culture throughout the site.
  • Promote employee engagement and accountability for health and safety through coaching, communication, and leadership.
  • Provide expert advice and support to managers and employees on all health, safety, and environmental matters.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable Irish health and safety legislation, company policies, and industry best practice.
  • Support the achievement of Company and Group Health & Safety objectives and key performance indicators.
  • Promote a culture of continuous learning and professional development.
  • Ensure employees receive appropriate instruction, information, and competency-based training.
  • Support waste reduction, energy efficiency, resource conservation, and environmental improvement programmes.
  • Manage HSE-related budgets and expenditure where required.
  • Develop, review, and maintain health, safety, and environmental policies, procedures, and management systems.
  • Conduct and oversee risk assessments, safe systems of work, and workplace inspections.
  • Ensure effective control measures are implemented and maintained across all operational activities.
  • Monitor compliance relating to machine safety, contractor management, hazardous substances, manual handling, PPE, and workplace welfare.
  • Maintain legal registers and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and licence obligations.
  • Lead investigations into accidents, incidents, near misses, and environmental events.
  • Identify root causes and implement appropriate corrective and preventative actions.
  • Monitor trends and communicate learnings across the organisation.
  • Manage internal and external HSE audits and support certification to recognised management systems, including ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 where applicable.
  • Analyse HSE performance data and provide regular reports to the Site Leadership Team and Group functions.
  • Develop and implement improvement plans to enhance overall HSE performance.

You will ideally be degree / equivalent qualified with a formal HSE qualification and 3 years' experience in a Health, Safety and Environmental role within a manufacturing, industrial, engineering, logistics, packaging, or FMCG environment.

Experience managing ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 management systems.
