Environmental Health and Safety Manager
BOAL Extrusion UK manufactures aluminium profiles for a wide range of industries from our site in Shepshed, Leicestershire. Our manufacturing, engineering, technical and support teams work closely together, with a shared focus on quality, safety and continuous improvement.
We are looking for an Environmental Health and Safety Manager who will be a true business partner to our teams. You will take the time to understand our operations, build strong working relationships and provide practical advice that helps colleagues manage risk and make informed decisions.
You will lead health, safety and environmental management across the site, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation while supporting practical, sustainable improvements. Visible and approachable, you will work alongside managers and employees to strengthen accountability and embed health, safety and environmental considerations into everyday activities.
This role is based on site in Shepshed, Leicestershire, five days a week.
Environmental Health and Safety Manager Responsibilities
- Develop and implement health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures in line with local Authorities.
- Conduct regular inspections and audits to identify potential hazards, assess risks, and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
- Develop and deliver training programs to educate employees on safety procedures, emergency response protocols, and environmental conservation practices.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of safety programs and initiatives, making necessary adjustments to ensure continuous improvement.
- Investigate and report accidents, incidents, and near misses, analysing root causes and implementing preventive measures to minimise future occurrences.
- Maintain and update safety data sheets (SDS) and ensure compliance with hazard communication standards.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement ergonomic solutions, promote wellness initiatives, and mitigate occupational health risks.
- Stay updated on relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations and industry best practices, and communicate changes and updates to the organisation.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory agencies, participating in inspections, audits and Local Authorities.
- Develop and maintain emergency response plans, including evacuation procedures, and coordinate drills and exercises to ensure preparedness.
- Carrying out safety Risk Assessments prior to starting a new project.
- Accountable for Health and Safety performance and establish Health and Safety goals.

Environmental Health and Safety Manager Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations and compliance requirements.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively train employees, facilitate discussions, and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills to identify risks, analyse data, and develop effective solutions.
- Attention to detail and strong organisational skills to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
- Ability to lead and influence others, fostering a culture of safety and accountability throughout the organisation.
- Proficiency in using computer software and systems to manage and track safety data and information.
- Lead and manage the ISO 14001/45001 Certifications. Management of both internal and external Audits.
- Knowledge of how to manage Contractors on site.

Required Qualifications
- Level 5 Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or Equivalent.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or similar professional certification preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in environmental health and safety management, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
- Experience in developing and implementing safety training programs and managing safety committees.
- Strong understanding of risk management principles and incident investigation techniques.
- Internal Auditor certified for ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards.
- AIEMA Foundation Certification in Environmental Management or equivalent.
- Ability to travel occasionally to various company locations or sites as needed.

Salary: £50,000 - £60,000 DOE
Working Hours: 39 hours per week
