Your new company
My client is a leading infrastructure organisation delivering and maintaining strategically important transport networks across the UK. They are responsible for a diverse portfolio of highways and specialist bridge maintenance contracts and are seeking an Environment & Sustainability Advisor to support environmental compliance and best practice across key operations in the UK.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop a long-term career within environmental management, working alongside operational teams on nationally significant infrastructure projects.
Your new role
As an Environment & Sustainability Advisor, you will work closely with operational managers, supervisors and site teams to improve environmental compliance and raise environmental awareness across live highways maintenance and construction activities.
You will spend the majority of your time on-site (typically 3-4 days per week), building relationships with operational teams and ensuring environmental standards are understood and embedded into day-to-day activities.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Providing practical environmental advice to site-based operational teams.
- Supporting compliance with ecological, environmental and protected area requirements.
- Conducting site inspections, audits and compliance reviews.
- Working with managers and supervisors to identify risks and implement improvements.
- Delivering environmental briefings and promoting best practice across contracts.
- Assisting with environmental management plans and incident investigations.
- Supporting environmental reporting and performance monitoring.
- Contributing to sustainability and carbon reduction initiatives where appropriate.
- Liaising with environmental specialists, regulators and internal stakeholders.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
