Role
We are seeking a Sustainability and Environmental Assurance Coordinator to support the Environment & Sustainability team.
The role will support the successful delivery of the HS2 Main Works Civils Contract during construction and handover phases.
The successful candidate will play a key role in environmental assurance, document control, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Main Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
HS2 Environmental and Sustainability Assurance
- Understand the Client and Joint Venture Partners' Environment and Sustainability Policies, Processes and statutory requirements as they affect the contract's operations and ensure that the requirements are implemented on the project.
- Support the technical assurance process through coordinating compilation of evidence against contract requirements and specifications when required at different lifecycle stages of the project; particularly the construction and handover phases.
- Assist in record keeping and assigning appropriate compliance evidence for the project in accordance with the HS2 Environmental Minimum Requirements, Code of Construction Practice and Undertakings & Assurances.
- Support the BREEAM Assessor with gathering supporting evidence across the project against the BREEAM Infrastructure Projects Standard towards achieving an ‘Excellent’ rating.
- Support the maintenance and continual improvement of the Environmental Management System (EMS) certified to ISO 14001.

Document Control & Management of Compliance Evidence
- Manage environmental and technical documentation through the document control systems; Assetwise and Enable My Team (EMT).
- Update, submit and track documents through review and approval workflows.
- Maintain trackers, registers and reporting systems to support compliance and operational delivery.
- Monitor and audit document quality to ensure accuracy and consistency.
Stakeholder & Operational Support
- Liaise with internal teams, clients and supply chain partners to support project delivery.
- Coordinate between technical specialists and operational teams to ensure requirements are communicated effectively.
- Support implementation of systems and processes that improve environmental performance and project efficiency.

Required Qualifications, Skills, Behaviors And Attributes
Essential Skills & Experience
- Strong administration and organisation skills.
- Thorough note taking and record keeping ability.
- Experience within construction, infrastructure, environmental or health & safety sectors.
- Good understanding of Microsoft Office 365 applications: Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to prioritise workload effectively.
- Ability to work independently and proactively in a fast-paced environment.
- Process-driven mindset with strong problem-solving skills.
- Degree or equivalent in Environmental Sciences or suitably applicable fields.
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Experience in understanding technical documentation and ability to simplify technical jargon.
- Experience working with Environmental Management Systems and Document Management systems.
- Knowledge of environmental compliance and sustainability practices.
- Knowledge of Power BI.
- Knowledge of BREEAM standards.
- Experience undertaking internal audits / Environmental Internal Auditor.

The role will work on the HS2 project. HS2 is the UK’s new high speed rail network. It will be a catalyst for economic growth across Britain, freeing up space on the existing railways and connecting UK cities with fast, reliable and frequent high-speed services
The Skanska | Costain | STRABAG (SCS JV) is delivering the HS2 Main Civils Contracts which include both Lots S1 (Euston Tunnels & Approaches) and S2 (Northolt Tunnels). The combined value of the contracts is around £4billion with the works due for completion in 2025. Scope of works includes twin-bored tunnels (TBM), SCL tunnels, shaft sinking, bridge demolition and reconstruction, services diversions, earthworks and the construction of site compounds.
