Environmental Advisor
As our Environmental Advisor, the job may be suitable for hybrid working, which is where an employee works part of the week in the office and part of the week from home. This is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement and the location advertised will be your contractual place of work. Our opportunity is full time, 37 hours per week, but we would also consider applicants wishing to work a minimum of 30 hours per week and we will also try our best to consider those intending to work a job share. Your world of expertise
Joining our Property Management team, you will take responsibility for our Environmental Management System (EMS) and maintenance of our ISO14001 certification.
You will ensure that we meet our environmental compliance obligations as well as provide specialist advice on environmental issues and monitor our environmental performance, all to ensure that we continue to reduce our environmental impacts.
Your key duties:
- Manage and develop our EMS, maintaining procedures, documentation and the Legal Compliance Register to ensure compliance with policy and ISO14001 requirements
- Lead the Met Office transition from ISO14001:2015 to ISO14001:2026
- Monitor environmental performance, analyse data and provide regular updates to Head of Property Management on targets, objectives and Greening Government Commitments
- Facilitate key environmental governance forums, including Biodiversity Working Group, Environmental Working Group and Legal Compliance meetings with FM providers
- Coordinate six-monthly ISO14001 external audits and deliver the internal environmental audit programme
- Maintain the Biodiversity Benchmark by supporting the Biodiversity Working Group and coordinating annual external audits.

As our Environmental Advisor, your total reward package will be up to £49,448 annually, which includes:
- £35,145 base pay
- An outstanding Civil Service pension, with an average employer contribution of 28.97%
- Annual Leave starting at 27.5 days (plus Bank Holidays) rising to 32.5 days (plus Bank Holidays) after 5 years and option to buy or sell up to 5 days per year of annual leave
Essential Criteria, skills and experience:
Qualifications:
- A relevant qualification and/or professional membership (such as ISEP or equivalent) and/or suitable experience (Experts by nature)
Environmental Expertise:
- Working knowledge of ISO14001, including effective management of an Environmental Management System (EMS), data analysis, and continuous improvement (Keep evolving)
Experience of internal and external auditing, ideally supported by a recognised qualification such as ISO14001 Internal Auditor or ISO14001 Lead Auditor - training can be provided if required
Stakeholder Engagement:
- Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to tailor information for a range of audiences, including senior management.
Analytical Decision-Making:
- Ability to analyse and present environmental information, make clear recommendations and communicate them effectively while working collaboratively with others (Live and breathe it)
