Environmental Advisor

We are looking for a motivated and ambitious Environmental Advisor to join our team on a major National Grid infrastructure framework. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in one of the UK's largest energy infrastructure projects, supporting the transition from the Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) phase into delivery.
Working across multiple work packages, you will support the delivery of environmental and consenting activities, ensuring projects are delivered responsibly, compliantly, and sustainably. This role offers excellent exposure to large-scale infrastructure works and provides an opportunity to further develop your expertise while taking on increasing levels of responsibility.
Reporting to the Environmental Manager, you will collaborate closely with operational teams, stakeholders, and project partners to help deliver environmental commitments throughout the project lifecycle.
Role Responsibilities
- Support the delivery of environmental and consenting requirements across multiple project work packages.
- Assist in ensuring compliance with environmental legislation, project commitments, licences, permits, and consent conditions.
- Collaborate closely with operational teams to integrate environmental requirements into construction activities.
- Provide day-to-day environmental advice and guidance to site and project teams.
- Support the management of environmental risks and opportunities throughout project delivery.
- Monitor environmental performance and contribute to the implementation of environmental improvement initiatives.
- Assist with environmental inspections, audits, reporting, and site monitoring activities.
- Support the coordination and management of environmental documentation, permits, licences, and approvals.
- Help investigate environmental incidents, identify root causes, and support the implementation of corrective actions.
- Engage with internal and external stakeholders to support environmental compliance and project objectives.
- Contribute to the successful delivery of environmental and secondary consent work scopes as projects move into the delivery phase.

Skills, Experience And Qualifications
- HND, Degree, Degree Apprenticeship, or equivalent qualification in an environmental or related discipline.
- Experience supporting environmental and consenting activities within construction, infrastructure, utilities, or engineering projects.
- Understanding of environmental legislation, regulations, and industry best practice.
- Ability to work collaboratively with operational and project delivery teams.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to produce clear environmental documentation, reports, and records.
- Initiative-taking and solutions-focused approach to environmental management.
- Experience working on major infrastructure projects is desirable.
- Knowledge of environmental and consenting requirements on large-scale construction projects is desirable.

About The Energy Business Unit
We have extensive experience in upgrading and replacing energy networks, delivering asset management for major UK energy companies and network operators.
Our transmission and distribution services involve the upgrading and replacement of electricity assets both above and below ground. Within the electricity sector we install and maintain assets, including excavation, laying, and jointing of cables, (fluid filled and XLPe), substations and overhead line, new build, repair, and refurbishment services.
