Job Description

Overview

AtkinsRéalis is one of the UK's leading engineering and consultancy organisations, supporting complex programmes across Defence, Aerospace, Nuclear and other highly regulated sectors. As demand for our services grows, we are looking for Environmental Consultants to help deliver sustainable solutions across UK Defence programmes. Previous experience of implementing environmental management and sustainability policy in industry or the Defence sector is not essential but would be beneficial.

Your role

As an Environmental Consultant you will be part of a team developing and implementing environmental management and sustainability solutions for a variety of Defence acquisition teams across Air, Land and Maritime. You will also help clients apply more efficient, digital approaches to environmental management processes and outputs, enabling greater focus on strategic thinking and decision making.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Implementing Defence policy and processes to assess the potential environmental impact of projects and operations.
  • Developing environmental arguments to demonstrate compliance with relevant legislation and Defence Regulations.
  • Preparing detailed technical reports and present the findings of environmental work to both internal and external customers.
  • Contributing to the development of the environmental capability.
  • Building successful working relationships with team members, key customers and stakeholders that improve the value of our environmental and sustainability services.
  • Be passionate about developing your skills and knowledge at all stages of your career.

About you

We are looking for self-motivated and enthusiastic Environmental and Sustainability Consultants who have a willingness to learn and develop new skills. You can apply sound environmental and sustainability judgement, communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders, and work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
