Summary
As an Environmental & Energy Compliance Apprentice you will support the Environmental Compliance team in maintaining and improving compliance with ISO 14001, ISO 50001, MCERTS, environmental legislation, and company management system.
Wage £26,436 a year

Hours Monday to Friday, 8.00am to 5.00pm, with some flexibility on start/finish times. 40 hours a week

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
- Key responsibilities include:
- Support the maintenance and continuous improvement of the Environmental Management System (EMS).
- Assist in reviewing and updating environmental procedures, forms, registers, and supporting documentation.
- Help ensure compliance with ISO 14001, ISO 50001, and MCERTS requirements.
- Support the implementation of changes required by evolving environmental standards and business needs.
- Support the planning and delivery of environmental and energy audits across multiple operational sites to ensure compliance with ISO 14001 requirements.
- Assist with audit reporting, monitoring corrective actions, and helping to close out audit findings and non-conformances.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by tracking audit performance and supporting the development of effective audit programmes and plans.
- Support the collection, validation, and analysis of environmental and energy performance data.
- Assist with maintaining compliance records, developing dashboards and reports, and monitoring key environmental and energy metrics.
- Help manage energy consumption data across systems, ensuring data accuracy and investigating any discrepancies or anomalies.
- Support operational sites with environmental compliance activities, inspections, and assessments to ensure adherence to environmental standards and permit requirements.
- Assist with environmental incident investigations, follow-up actions, and promoting best environmental practices across site teams.
- Be involved in developing and delivering environmental training, toolbox talks, and awareness initiatives to promote understanding of environmental responsibilities and procedures.
- Support environmental and energy improvement projects, identifying risks and opportunities and contributing to performance reporting.
- Maintain accurate environmental records and documentation, supporting preparation for external audits and certification visits.
- Work independently and proactively as a part of a small team. This will require the ability to work cross-functionally across different departments and teams.
- Travel across key sites so must hold a full UK driving licence.

What you'll learn
- Select and implement project management and planning tools applicable to the type of project/campaign lifecycle.
- Assess the effectiveness of change and identify opportunities to improve outcomes, guiding and supporting others to deliver results.
- Balance own CR & S workload to prioritise competing demands and achieve key performance indicators.
- Utilise strengths of internal organisational structures to help build self-sustaining CR & S populations.
- Tailor approach to maintaining new/existing external stakeholder relationships to achieve progress on plans (e.g objectives, key initiatives and shared interests).
- Contribute to the negotiation of external CR & S projects of mutual benefit.
- Adopt a communication method that takes account of the audience and is suitable for the circumstances.
- Recommend opportunities for external engagement, articulating the mutual benefits and risks.
- Contribute to written reports on CR & S performance in line with organisational requirements.
- Contribute to the drafting of the CR & S strategy.
- Adjust leadership style to achieve results, having regard to the needs of the individual/teams involved.
- Select data that is relevant to the CR & S issue being considered.
- Analyse data to form evidence-based conclusions on CR & S performance.
- Deliver CR & S events in accordance with contractual arrangements.
- Quality assure own and others work in accordance with organisational requirements
- Contribute to reporting externally on CR & S Strategy and delivery in line with industry and legislative requirements.
- Identify own organisations CR & S opportunities and threats.
- Escalate risks within own organisation when needed.
- Research the CR & S landscape, escalating best practice opportunities within own organisation.
- Apply management techniques needed to deliver CR & S projects within budget.
- Train colleagues in CR & S techniques, tailoring the learning style to the circumstances.
- Identify and deliver initiatives that may raise funds for CR & S projects.
- Identify and apply relevant IT solutions to CR & S issues.
Training schedule
The successful applicant will complete a Level 4 Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability apprenticeship. To meet the requirements of the programme apprentices, need to spend 6 hours a week undertaking off-the-job learning, which will include:

To successfully complete the qualification, apprentices need to complete an End Point Assessment.

Essential qualifications
- GCSE in: English and Maths (grade 9-4)
