Environmental Compliance Manager
Location: Maldon, Essex
Salary: £50,000-£60,000 DOE, Negotiable
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm
About the Opportunity
Bradley David Associates is recruiting on behalf of a well-established and highly respected business within the timber industry, seeking an experienced Environmental Compliance Manager to join its team in Maldon, Essex.
This is an excellent opportunity for an environmental compliance professional with experience in timber regulations, responsible sourcing, and supply chain compliance to take ownership of environmental standards and help drive continuous improvement across the business. Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you will manage a small team, work closely with internal departments, and engage with suppliers, customers, industry bodies, and regulatory organizations.
The position will also involve occasional international travel.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee environmental compliance across the business, ensuring all activities meet relevant UK and international regulations.
- Ensure compliance with the UK Timber Regulation (UKTR), Construction Products Regulation, Modern Slavery Act, and EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR).
- Manage and maintain robust due diligence systems relating to timber legality, responsible sourcing, and supply chain compliance.
- Conduct supplier assessments, audits, and risk evaluations to ensure compliance with environmental and ethical standards.
- Work closely with purchasing and management teams to maintain effective environmental governance.
- Act as the main point of contact for internal and external environmental compliance queries.
- Liaise with government enforcement bodies, certification organizations, trade associations, and other external stakeholders.
- Monitor environmental performance and provide regular reports to the Board of Directors.
- Represent the business at industry committees and contribute to wider environmental initiatives.
- Develop and deliver internal training materials, guidance, and environmental communications.
- Collaborate with the Quality Manager to integrate environmental compliance into existing business processes.
- Identify opportunities to improve sustainability, responsible sourcing, and environmental performance.

Skills & Experience Required
- Previous experience in environmental compliance, ideally within the timber, forestry, wood products, or associated industries.
- Strong knowledge of timber legality, responsible sourcing, and relevant certification standards.
- Understanding of the UK Timber Regulation (UKTR) and associated due diligence requirements.
- Experience working with timber supply chains, supplier compliance, or forest management.
- Knowledge of environmental auditing, risk assessments, and compliance reporting.
- Strong analytical skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Confident communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to influence internal teams and external suppliers.
- Experience developing training materials and improving compliance processes.
- A proactive approach with a genuine interest in environmental responsibility and continuous improvement.
