Environmental Consultant – Noise, Air Quality, Lighting & Odour (NALO)
Shape a healthier, more sustainable built environment through science, engineering and technical innovation.
Join Tetra Tech’s NALO team and work on diverse, high-profile projects across the UK and Europe. From major infrastructure and sustainable energy developments to residential, healthcare and commercial schemes, you’ll help clients understand and manage environmental impacts through robust technical assessments and practical solutions.
Purpose & Scope of the Role
As an Environmental Consultant, you’ll deliver environmental surveys, assessments and technical advice across noise, acoustics, air quality, lighting and odour. Working with multidisciplinary teams, you’ll contribute to projects from initial investigations and modelling through to reporting, planning support and mitigation. You’ll build trusted client relationships while developing your technical expertise and supporting the growth of our consultancy services.
Your Impact in this position
You’ll combine scientific knowledge, practical fieldwork and consultancy skills to deliver high-quality, commercially sound projects. From preparing technical reports and proposals to managing budgets, deadlines and client expectations, you’ll help deliver solutions that meet regulatory requirements and make a tangible difference to the built environment.
Core Capabilities
- Technical delivery: Apply your environmental science knowledge to surveys, monitoring, modelling and assessments across NALO disciplines. Experience in at least one service area is valuable, with training available to broaden your skills.
- Project management: Coordinate resources, equipment, costs and invoicing to keep projects on track, within budget and to a consistently high standard.
- Technical communication: Produce clear, evidence-based reports, fee proposals and tenders, translating complex findings into practical client advice.
- Client relationships and business development: Build strong client partnerships, identify opportunities and contribute to winning work and growing the team.
- Collaboration, safety and leadership: Work proactively across Tetra Tech and its sister companies, promote health, safety and security, and support colleagues in delivering shared objectives.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
