About Us
Shared Regulatory Services is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Environmental Health Officer to join our Housing Enforcement and Pollution Control Team.
As part of a multidisciplinary service covering Bridgend County Borough and the Vale of Glamorgan, the team is responsible for private sector housing, pollution control and public health functions. This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference to local communities by helping to protect public health, improve housing conditions and ensure compliance with environmental health legislation.
About The Role
Pay Details: Pay Grade 9
Hours of Work / Working Pattern: 37 hours/ 5 days a week/ Flexi
Main Place of Work: Bridgend and Vale of Glamorgan
Description:
We are seeking an enthusiastic, proactive and professional Environmental Health Officer to undertake investigations and deliver effective enforcement in accordance with relevant environmental health legislation. The successful candidate will be responsible for a varied caseload, undertaking a wide range of enforcement activities across housing and environmental protection functions.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Investigating statutory nuisance complaints
- Improving housing conditions within the private rented sector
- Securing compliance with relevant legislation through informal and formal enforcement action where appropriate

The postholder will work with owners, developers and partners to bring vacant and long-term empty properties back into use, using enforcement powers to support regeneration, housing supply and communities. The postholder will also provide specialist environmental health advice and consultation responses in relation to Planning and Licensing applications, supporting the protection of public health and the wider environment.
Working closely with colleagues, partner agencies, landlords, businesses and residents, you will play an important role in improving housing standards and protecting the health and wellbeing of local communities.
About You
We are looking for a motivated and professional individual who is committed to delivering high-quality environmental health services and improving outcomes for local communities.
You will need to have:
- A relevant Environmental Health qualification, degree or equivalent professional qualification.
- The ability to work independently, manage a varied workload and prioritise competing demands effectively.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, partner organisations, businesses, landlords and residents.
- Confidence in interpreting and enforcing a range of Environmental Health legislation in a fair, proportionate and consistent manner.
- Excellent investigative, analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make sound professional judgements.
- The ability to prepare clear and accurate reports, records and enforcement documentation.
