Environmental Health Officer (Noise & Nuisance) – 8 Week Contract

Summary

Barnet Council is seeking two experienced Environmental Health Officers to join their Public Health Noise and Nuisance Team on a temporary basis. This role involves investigating a wide range of environmental and public health issues, such as noise nuisances, pest infestations, and waste management, impacting residents and businesses throughout the borough. The position is ideal for professionals skilled in conducting investigations, gathering evidence, and executing enforcement actions within a regulatory framework. The role is fully on-site, offering a competitive hourly rate and the opportunity to address increased service demands.

Responsibilities

• Investigate complaints related to noise nuisances, including construction noise, amplified music, and barking dogs.
• Address environmental issues such as pest infestations, fly-tipping, dumped waste, and bonfires.
• Respond to service requests in accordance with established service standards.
• Conduct site inspections, monitoring visits, and gather evidence.
• Perform witnessing visits, including occasional out-of-hours attendance.
• Prepare and serve notices under relevant environmental legislation.
• Monitor compliance with legal notices and take enforcement actions as needed.
• Investigate breaches and pursue appropriate enforcement measures.
• Prepare reports, witness statements, and legal documentation.
• Assist in court and tribunal proceedings when necessary.
• Maintain accurate records and manage case systems.
• Provide advice and guidance to residents, businesses, and stakeholders.
• Participate in environmental health projects and service improvement initiatives.
• Support engagement and enforcement activities at events.
• Collaborate with Licensing Teams, Community Safety Teams, Barnet Homes, other council services, and external agencies.
