We are Hiring: Environmental Health Officer – Food Safety Inspector

Contract Type: Temporary Contract (Per Inspection Basis)

Rate: 200 pounds/day

Role Overview

We are seeking a qualified and competent Environmental Health Officer (Food Safety Inspector) to undertake approximately 130 food hygiene and food standards inspections on behalf of a local authority. This is a field-based contract with payment made on a per inspection basis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct on-site food hygiene and food standards inspections.
  • Inspect new food businesses in accordance with statutory requirements.
  • Complete and leave a handwritten inspection report at each visit.
  • Accurately complete data input sheets and inspection aide memoires.
  • Issue the appropriate Food Hygiene Rating Scheme (FHRS) sticker.
  • Upload all inspection documentation within 7 days of each inspection.
  • Ensure inspections are completed in line with Food Law Code of Practice and local authority standards.

Essential Requirements

Applicants must meet one of the following:

  • Qualified Environmental Health Officer (EHO) registered with the Environmental Health Registration Board (EHRB) and competent in food safety; or
  • Holder of a Higher Certificate in Food Control or Higher Certificate in Food Inspection with recent, demonstrable experience undertaking food hygiene and food standards inspections.

  • Recent experience conducting official food hygiene and food standards inspections.
  • Sound knowledge of UK food safety legislation and the Food Hygiene Rating Scheme.
  • Strong written communication and report writing skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage inspection workloads efficiently.
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
