We are looking for two experienced officers to join our friendly and supportive Environmental Health department. The successful candidates will work within the busy Residential team, and their duties will cover noise and other nuisance investigations; public health related work; all aspects of private sector housing, including the licensing of houses in multiple occupation and investigations in relation to the new Renters’ Rights Act; and the investigation of social housing complaints.
An interest in acoustics, and experience in the investigation of complex noise complaints, as well as the ability to critique technical noise reports and provide acoustic advice in connection with large development projects, will be an advantage.
You will be enthusiastic, committed, self-motivated and have a positive attitude. You must be an excellent communicator and team player with sound time management skills and be confident in dealing with members of the public. You must be able to demonstrate your ability to adapt to changing priorities and work to tight deadlines.
This post is identified as a hybrid post supporting both office and home working in line with Spelthorne Borough Council’s policy. The post holder will be required to attend the office in line with a rota and any service requirements.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
