Occupational Hygiene Technician

Location: Hinkley Point C, Somerset (Site-Based)
Hours: Full Time, Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week

About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Occupational Hygiene Technician to join a major industrial construction project. Working as part of the Health, Safety and Environment team, you will play a key role in promoting occupational health standards, improving workplace wellbeing, and ensuring compliance with industry regulations and best practices.

You will provide specialist occupational hygiene support across site operations, helping to identify, assess and control workplace health hazards while driving continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor developments in occupational hygiene legislation, industry standards and best practice to ensure ongoing compliance.
  • Provide guidance on personal protective equipment (PPE), respiratory protective equipment (RPE), safe systems of work and ergonomic considerations.
  • Support workforce awareness through participation in safety meetings, toolbox talks and occupational health training activities.
  • Assist in the delivery of the site's occupational hygiene strategy and objectives.
  • Participate in occupational hygiene investigations, studies and workplace assessments.
  • Promote occupational health best practices across project teams and contractors.
  • Conduct workplace inspections and audits, reviewing risk assessments and method statements to ensure effective control measures are in place.
  • Identify non-conformances, agree corrective actions with site management, and monitor completion of improvement plans.
  • Produce occupational hygiene reports, performance data and KPI updates in line with business, client and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide proactive advice and support to operational teams to ensure occupational hygiene processes are consistently applied.
  • Identify training needs and deliver occupational hygiene-related training where required.
  • Support incident preparedness, reporting, investigation and follow-up activities, ensuring root causes are identified and corrective actions implemented.
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties commensurate with the role.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Significant experience working as an Occupational Hygienist or Occupational Hygiene Technician within industrial, manufacturing, engineering, energy or major construction environments.
  • Strong knowledge of workplace exposure controls, including:
    • Welding fume management
    • Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV) systems
    • Respiratory Protective Equipment (RPE)
    • Containment and workplace monitoring controls
  • Experience carrying out audits, inspections and managing corrective actions arising from non-conformance findings.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage and influence employees and contractors at all levels.
  • Strong report-writing, investigation and problem-solving skills.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • BOHS Certificate of Operational Competence in Occupational Hygiene (CertOH) or working towards qualification.
  • CCNSG Safety Passport.
  • Relevant occupational hygiene or health and safety background.

Desirable:

  • Additional BOHS qualifications.
  • Previous experience working on major construction or highly regulated industrial projects.
