A London Local Authority is currently recruiting for 2 Environmental Health & Enforcement Officer positions to join their Regulatory Services team for a 6-month initial contract.
The roles will be offered mostly remote, with site inspections and stakeholder engagement required across the borough.
These are excellent opportunities to join a busy and high-performing Environmental Health service and play a key role in protecting public health, improving environmental standards, and ensuring compliance with Environmental Health legislation.
We are recruiting for:
- Environmental Health & Enforcement Officer (CIEH Registered) to join the Food & Health and Safety Team, covering Food Safety, Health & Safety, and Infectious Disease Control. Applicants must have current experience of food safety and health & safety enforcement.
- Environmental Health & Enforcement Officer to join the Health & Safety Enforcement Team, with a focus on health & safety enforcement activities. Applicants must have current experience within a health & safety enforcement environment.
The Roles
As an Environmental Health & Enforcement Officer, you will:
- Undertake inspections, investigations, audits, and enforcement activities across your specialist area
- Ensure compliance with Environmental Health and Health & Safety legislation, taking enforcement action where necessary
- Investigate complaints, service requests, and public health concerns, gathering evidence, and preparing detailed reports
- Exercise statutory powers including inspections, notices, seizures, and other enforcement interventions
- Prepare cases for legal proceedings, including witness statements, evidence packs, and attendance at court or tribunals
- Provide professional advice and guidance to businesses, residents, and stakeholders
- Maintain accurate case records and ensure statutory deadlines and service standards are met
- Manage a varied and demanding caseload while delivering high-quality customer service
- Work collaboratively with internal and external partners to promote public health and regulatory compliance

About You
You will be an experienced Environmental Health or Enforcement professional with:
- A relevant qualification in Environmental Health, Environmental Science, or a related discipline
- Strong knowledge of Environmental Health and/or Health & Safety legislation
- Experience undertaking inspections, investigations, and enforcement activities
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Strong report writing, case management, and organizational abilities
- The ability to make sound decisions and manage competing priorities effectively

Additional Requirements
Food & Health and Safety Team
- Current registration with the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH)
- Recent experience carrying out Food Safety inspections and enforcement
- Experience within Health & Safety enforcement
- Knowledge of Infectious Disease Control processes
Health & Safety Enforcement Team
- Current experience within a Health & Safety enforcement role
- Experience undertaking inspections, investigations, and enforcement action in accordance with relevant legislation
Desirable Experience
- Previous Local Authority Environmental Health experience
- Experience preparing evidence and supporting legal proceedings or prosecutions
- Experience working within a highly regulated enforcement environment
- Experience leading projects, service improvements, or mentoring colleagues
