About the Role
East Suffolk Council is an exciting place to work, this role will be working in the Safe Suffolk Renters team who work in collaboration with East & West Suffolk Councils.
We currently have an opportunity to join the Safe Suffolk Renters Team as an Environmental Health Technical Officer.
The Role
We are a friendly, supportive and proactive team with a strong commitment to making a positive difference to the lives of our residents. We're looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual who shares our passion for creating safer, healthier and higher-quality homes throughout our communities.
Do you thrive in a role where no two days are the same? Are you a collaborative team player who can also work independently, using your initiative to deliver meaningful outcomes? If so, we'd love to hear from you.
As part of the Safe Suffolk Renters Team, working alongside our experienced Private Sector Housing colleagues, you will take on a varied and rewarding role that combines education, advice and regulatory enforcement. You will work directly with residents, landlords and partner agencies to drive improvements in housing conditions, making full use of the wide range of statutory powers available to the service.
You will build upon your expertise in identifying and resolving housing disrepair and poor housing conditions, applying a comprehensive legislative framework to achieve compliance and positive outcomes. The role offers opportunities to undertake a broad range of interventions, from providing advice and informal guidance through to formal enforcement action, including preparation for Tribunal and Court proceedings where necessary.
We are looking for someone who can confidently manage a varied caseload, work effectively under pressure and take a proactive approach to problem-solving. You will have the ability to interpret and apply legislation, provide clear and practical guidance to residents and landlords, and work collaboratively with colleagues across East and West councils and external partners to deliver lasting improvements in the private rented sector.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
Start with a chat, not a search bar
Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
